From neogaf:

Varion wrote:- Set in the same period as Valkyria 1.
- Key characters all new.
- Focuses around a group called the Nameless which are... ergh. Closest English word seems to be a penal battalion, the Japanese definition according to Wikipedia is "Special group in the army composed of deserters and other military offenders. In the broader sense it doesn't have to be military offenders, and can be composed of general criminals as well. These units are often given dangerous or unpleasant missions such as the burying of corpses or the removal of land mines."

Varion wrote:Protagonist - Number 07 Kurt Irving (VA: Nakamura Yuuichi)
Held a bright future as a highly skilled commander, but through a certain incident became one of the Nameless. Rational and unpredjudiced so good with others. Hopes to amass enough achievements in battle to return to his former squad.

Heroine #1 - Number 01 Imuka (Asano Masumi)
Squad Ace and number 1. The village in which she used to live was wiped out. Was invited into the Nameless during her wanderings to seek revenge. The giant weapon she uses and created herself lets her survive battles alone and seek revenge. Darcsen.

Heroine #2 - Number 13 Riera Malseris [VA: Endou Aya]
Has incredible abilities and is a descendent of the Valkyria, but both those around her and she herself don't realise this. Even when the squads she was attached to are wiped out one after another, thanks to her abilities as a Valkyria she alone survives, and as such is hated by those around her as a 'Reaper', and so was sent to join the Nameless.

Varion wrote:Just finished reading through the interview:

- The game does not adopt a mission system like the second game - instead as you read through the story battles occur.
- Story will be definitely darker than the second game - but not all darkness and tragedy, they'll be the same sense of comradeship as in other Valkyria games.
- The command and action modes have been renewed, and the number of things you can do has been increased. There'll be a demo at TGS that lets you try out Riera's Valkyria mode and the unleashing of Imuka's weapon abilities - the heroines' 'super modes', but there will be other new elements too.
- The area system from the second game will be kept, but they'll be wider.
- You'll be able to fight giant tanks like the Batomys from the first game on several occasions with different attack strategies. There'll be a number of other unique situations to get you excited too.
- Changing the class system so individual characters are more, er, individual. As far as the classes go, they're aiming for quality not quantity, so some will be unified, and they want to further strengthen the role of each class.
- Because they want to aim for more enjoyment of the story, the 'ingredient collection' elements have been reduced. There is also no multiplayer.

Duckroll wrote:Okay, from what I'm reading, it does seem pretty... anti-VC2, which is a bit surprising.

- There will only be about 20 characters in the story squad this time, not including guest characters.

...

- There will be a lot less collection and grinding content, and there will be no multiplayer at all (wow!).

- The focus will be on delivering a story experience, and the game won't just be mission based like in VC2. It doesn't seem like they're abandoning the optional mission based selection in VC2, but it sounds like they want it to be more like VC1 where you can follow the storyline and story missions will unfold.

- Another interesting point is that the Command Map will be getting a complete overhaul, while the Action phase will also have much more actions available. Various characters will also have super modes unique to their character, and the Valkyria character can activate her Valkyria powers as an actual attack mode.

- Character growth will be much more individual this time round (this is probably one of the few things they're taking from VC2), because they want the player to be able to bring up more unique properties of characters as they get stronger.
