FEDERAL CITY, 2094 A.D. Two factions are fighting for control of the the world's last remaining financial system: CryptoCoin. This digitally encrypted currency is similar to Bitcoin in the early 21st century and the world has now come to rely solely on CryptoCoin for all transactions worldwide. Physical cash no longer exists, all transactions are known, no information is sacred.

Those who control the network control the future...

story_image_2-u4492.png

It is a one-world government known as the United States Federation (USF), a ruthless police state where all physical currency has become worthless. Digital money - CryptoCoins - are world's only means of conducting transactions, a government sanctioned financial system. Giant corporations seize the CryptoCoin market and are starving out the common man. The government's elite police forces protect these corporate interests while hope for a fair and just world is waning quickly.

Those who oppose the new order are arrested and never seen again. Freedom and democracy have burned to the ground.

Beneath the streets of Federal City lies an underground network of hackers and resistance Fighters. Known as the Outrise, they are united by one goal: infIltrateand disable the CryptoCoin network and dismantle the Federation's oppressive control.

In response to the Outrise threat the government deploys a specialized USF task force with one mission: Hunt down and destroy the Outrise and their remnants before they start the revolution.

GAME DETAILS

Outrise is very early in development and we are taking this opportunity to share our vision for the game with the community. Outrise is a game about multiplayer boss fights and asymmetrical gameplay. Remember reaching the giant boss at the end of a level? Now imagine that boss was controlled by your friend or someone online. We think of it as a multiplayer Shadow Of The Colossus meets Left 4 Dead and with old school sci fi look and feel.

You spawn in to the game, grab your weapons, and emerge from the underground and into the fight. Terrifying roars of the Megalith echo through the streets. As you reach the battlefield a fellow comrad is crushed to a fine red mist beneath the ungodly weight of the beast. It's all out warfare. Fifteen players fighting against one like a colony of fire ants attacking's it's prey. A team of davids against a towering goliath.

The game is asymmetrical. The way you interact and control a foot soldier is radically different than if you are playing as the boss. As a foot soldier you have access to an array of high power weapons like rifles, drones, and explosives. You can drive land and air vehicles and even climb the boss itself. You and an entire team work together to take down one player.

Words cannot describe the level of destructive power you feel playing as the boss. You are an unstoppable machine of death facing an army of real players by yourself. Entire teams are decimated with the click of your button. The earth trembles as you scale the landscape, leaving complete and utter destruction in your wake. Stomp enemies into pancakes, drop enemy-seeking mines, and unleash horrendeous weaponry on your foes the likes of which the world has never seen.

Being the boss involves acute battlefield awareness. Strategy is involved as you need to know where your threats are at any given time. Enemies can be climbing you, attacking from the sky, and surrounding you on the ground at the same time. Your weapons are designed to help defend from any situation you might encounter.

Tracy Lien wrote:A group of developers whose industry experience includes time at Ubisoft, Crytek and Adhesive Games have come together to work on Outrise, an asymmetrical multiplayer shooter that project lead James Wearing describes as Shadow of the Colossus meets Left 4 Dead.

Outrise is in the early stages of development, so early that Wearing told Polygon that the development team isn't even an official studio yet. Over the past year and a half, a core team of six to seven developers have worked in their spare time on Outrise, a passion project that Wearing hopes will soon be something bigger.

"It started with myself about a year and a half ago," said Wearing, who previously worked at Ubisoft and Crytek. "I wanted to build something that was old school in its charm. I grew up watching RoboCop and Terminator, so I wanted to make a game that had the magic that old school sci-fi had that we don't really see any more."

The other thing Wearing wanted to do was create a game with asymmetrical gameplay. He recruited game industry friends who'd worked on titles like Star Citizen and Hawken, and in the past year and a half the team has developed the concept to a point where it now feels ready to show it to the world for feedback. "We've gotten it conceptually to a place where we're ready for the next step," he said. "We're exploring funding options — it could be Kickstarter, it could be private money — we're open to whatever the right path might be." The game's platform has also not yet been decided.
