Dead or Alive Xtreme 3 announced for PS4, PS Vita

Fortune for PlayStation 4, Venus for PS Vita.

Following its confirmation earlier this month, Dead or Alive Xtreme 3 is being developed for PlayStation 4 and PS Vita, the latest issue of Famitsu confirms.

The PlayStation 4 version is called Dead or Alive Xtreme 3: Fortune and the PS Vita version is called Dead or Alive Xtreme 3: Venus. Each is furnished with different features.

A release date was not announced.

Dead or Alive Xtreme 3 might come west if demand is high enough

Characters to be chosen via 15 heroine themes release.

First details on the newly announced Dead or Alive Xtreme 3: Fortune for PlayStation 4 and Dead or Alive Xtreme 3: Venus for PS Vita have come out of this week’s Famitsu.

The magazine features an interview with producer Yosuke Hayashi. Here are the bullet points:

• Dead or Alive Xtreme 3 will only be sold in the Asia region, including Japan. If demand calls for it, they may release a version of the game adjusted for North America (and presumably Europe, but the text just says North America).
• Adjustments are being made to the powered up “Soft Engine 2.0.”
• The PS Vita version will use the customized “Soft Engine Lite.” There will be elements that incorporate the touch panel and gyro sensor.
• Spending time with your favorite characters has become richer than past entries in the series. They’re thinking about various reward elements for players who devote themselves to the use of one character.
• There’s a camera mode.
• Suntans have been considerably powered up.
• Not every female character will be in the game.
• On August 20, Koei Tecmo will release custom themes featuring 15 heroines, and the top 9 characters downloaded will be included in the game.
• There are no plans to release character downloadable content.

Koei Tecmo and Team Ninja have released a new set of Dead or Alive Xtreme 3 screenshots.

The game, which will launch as Dead or Alive Xtreme 3: Fortune for PlayStation 4 and Dead or Alive Xtreme 3: Venus for PS Vita, was recently dated for February 25 in Japan. Collector’s editions will also be available. Sometime after the initial release, a paid, downloadable “Starter Pack” including a single character will be released. Further characters can be purchased and added on.

Currently confirmed activities for the game include butt battles and beach volleyball, but Team Ninja promises more events than previous games. If you missed it, catch first footage of the PlayStation 4 version here.

In response to a request on the official Dead or Alive Facebook page, Team Ninja’s community manager explained the studio’s reasoning for not localizing Dead or Alive Xtreme 3.

“We do not bring [Dead or Alive Xtreme 3] to the west and won’t have any plan change in the future,” Team Ninja’s community manager said in a response. “Thank you for asking.”

He continued, “Do you know many issues happening in video game industry with regard to how to treat female in video game industry? We do not want to talk those things here. But certainly we have gone through in last year or two to come to our decision. Thank you.”

Koei Tecmo Europe’s official Twitter account acknowledged the community manager’s remarks, saying, “Kudos to the [Team Ninja’s community manager] for being honest. But if you really want it, you can import [the English] ver.”

While a localization for North America and Europe isn’t planned, Asia, as previously announced, is getting an English version of Dead or Alive Xtreme 3.
