Crossover fighter by Capcom. The game pits Capcom characters against characters from Tatsunoko Productions' various anime shows.

I am really puzzled by this game. First off, I had somehow assumed it would be running on the Type X2, but apparently it's on a custom PCB. I've heard that the PCB is supposed to be based on the Wii, but I haven't seen any evidence and that just sounds too far fetched to me. Then there's the fact that the game was developed by Eighting, which I guess is not too surprising considering all the work they've done on the Heat the Soul games, plus the recent Fate/unlimited codes, again for Capcom. More importantly, arcade and Wii versions were released on the exact same date (December 11). Is that unheard of or am I missing something?

Capcom went from wanting to have nothing any more in the arcade scene, to farming out a bunch of fighting games on almost as many different systems to almost as many developers. So we have:

Street Fighter IV / Type X2 / Dimps
Tatsunoko vs. Capcom / Custom / Eighting
Sengoku Basara X / System 246/256 / Arc System Works
Fate/unlimited codes / System 246 / Type-Moon, cavia, 8ing

Anyway. I really want to play this game. Too bad I don't have my Japanese Wii with me at the moment.

In my personal and rather brief, insufficient experience at a friend's house, it was nigh impossible to control with a GameCube controller, and one big bad joke with the Wii Remote + Nunchuk combo (think beginner mode and randomly waggling the thing around to perform a hyper combo, I was almost on the brink of tears while laughing). Can't say anything on the "Classic" controller since my friend doesn't have one.

Ryu is much more visually "right" in this game than SF IV...

There's a Nintendo logo on the board. It even has wifi for some reason.

Good news. I hope for a PAL version also (as I haven't a Japanese or a US Wii and I haven't modified my PAL console). Day one for a PAL version.

US localisation would be largely enough. The Wii can be soft-modded easily (and freely) and the modification is reversible. There is absolutly no reason no to do it.

I really don't have any hopes for PAL territory.

Any way, damn good news!

Even better than soft-modding:

eventhubs.com wrote:Wii release of Tatsunoko vs. Capcom confirmed for Europe

Capcom's Senior Online Marketing and Community Manager, who goes by the handle Tenebra, confirmed that Tatsunoko vs. Capcom will be headed over to European shores today on the Capcom Europe forums.

No other details were made known though, but good news regardless.

Some people at Capcom seem really dedicated about selling this game worldwide.

It isn't all that surprising really, many of Tatsunoko's series had a pretty decent level of success over at European countries.

Now, I wonder about Capcom's policy for character and series naming in the international versions. Will they keep the Japanese originals, or will they use (one of) the (many) American and European ones?

Well you are right by soft-modding the Wii you can make it region-free, without the need of modchips or freeloaders discs. In addition you can even change the region of your Wii online shop channel. Very good news for an import gamer since you can buy Japanese VC or Wii-ware content. Also, it is the only way to play some Japanese games online like Monster Hunter G (soon Monster Hunter 3/Tri- as well) with a PAL or US console because you need a Japanese Wii shop channel to connect to the Japanese servers.

This “newer” version of TvC, currently dubbed Tatsunoko vs. Capcom, removes one character due to licensing issues, and adds five new ones, online gameplay, more mini-games and an enhanced story mode.

• Wi-Fi Online gameplay allows worldwide matches.
• Four battle modes include Friend, Rival, Free and Ranked Battles.
• Match-ups are not restricted to just “Friends”.

It's nice to see online play confirmed.

Capcom sent out a second press release, since the first one (referenced in my above post) was incorrect.

Some of the things that were removed from the first press release are:

* Instead of saying there are 26 characters, now it's "over 20."
* Online play goes from being definitely in the game to a feature "they're looking into."
* They don't discuss any of the other online features in this version of the press release.

New version with the usual new characters, adjusted balance, etc., as well as an online vs. mode:

I wonder if these changes will make it to the arcade version -- or perhaps they already have?

Besides Tekkaman Blade, new additions include Kagaku Ninjatai Gatchaman's Condor no Joe, Dead Rising's Frank West and Rockman X's Zero.
