“Attention all competitors: This is your one minute warning. I repeat, one minute until race commencement. Members of the public: You now have one minute to reach minimum safe distance!”

Thus began the introduction to the original Carmageddon.

Now, almost 15 years after that first warning announcement, we are pleased to be able to give advanced notification to all those of a nervous disposition that the Carmageddon racers are back. And just for the record – the break hasn’t done anything to improve their road manners.

Today, the team who developed that first game have finally been reunited with their creation. Carmageddon has come home.

Stainless Games is in the early stages of designing the next instalment of the Carmageddon series; Carmageddon: Reincarnation. As the game develops, you’ll be able to follow progress in the Blog. Today, you can read some of Batwick’s ramblings… he doesn’t make much sense, but it’s better than a blank page. Coming soon, nobby will be posting his own blog entry about the awesome concept artwork that's setting the tone for the new game.

And we’re also looking forward to hearing what you like-minded sick twists would most love to see in the next game. What power-ups did you seek out? What was the best environment? Which character did you hate most? What’s your current gaming platform of choice? Head over to the forums and tell us. NOW.

You’ll need to Sign Up in order to contribute to the forum chatter (and because we need extra volunteers for the salt mines). Once you’re signed up, you'll be able to wax lyrical or vent your spleen on any number of topics in the forums, and you can also enter our regular competitions.

Stainless Games Completes $3.5 Million Investment Round to Fuel Development on Carmageddon: Reincarnation

Stainless Games announces that the company has successfully completed a $3.5 million funding round for the development of the next iteration of Carmageddon: Reincarnation on the next gen platforms. Les Edgar, shareholder of Stainless Games, founder of Bullfrog Productions and former VP of EA's European Studios has bridged the final part of the required funding for this development. This investment follows Stainless Games’ successful Kickstarter funding campaign the studio ran during June 2012 that contributed to the development of the PC release of Carmageddon: Reincarnation.

“We are delighted to have fully funded Carmageddon: Reincarnation without having to go outside of the collective of our own company, shareholders and fans. It allows us to maintain a true independence and creative control whilst not having to compromise quality or content by budgetary constraints. ” said Patrick Buckland, CEO and co-founder of Stainless Games.

“For an independent, privately owned company to achieve this, is a testament to our strength and to the loyalty of our fans.” he added.

Following the successful release of the iOS version of the original Carmageddon game on both iPhone and iPad late last year, Stainless Games has completed another major goal in its mission to resurrect this legendary IP and reintroduce it to a new generation of fans. The finance secured during the last weeks by Stainless Games management and board will aid the company in expanding the development and launch of the next gen instalment – Carmageddon: Reincarnation.

“I have always had a great belief in Stainless, and I really admire their continued success as one of the leading indie dev studios. The Carmageddon name is one we all want to see rise again, and I know that in the hands of its original creators, we’re bound to get the best out of the brand.” said Les Edgar. “I’m delighted to be on board and helping make the project happen.”

The new title Carmageddon: Reincarnation is set to re-engage the millions of players who enjoyed the previous versions for their excellent gameplay and irreverent humour; introduce a whole new generation of gamers to the legendary brand; and reinforce Stainless Games' position as a strong independent developer driving unprecedented engagement for its players across all games they develop on any platform. Stainless Games Ltd. is an approved next gen developer and the experience, merit, knowledge and development discipline combined with this investment is a great indicator of the quality to be expected when Carmageddon: Reincarnation is unleashed.

Stainless said “Let there be gibs!” And there were gibs.

And so the end of year video presentation. What we’ve got for you is a suspension test video, which showcases some of the amazing tech work being done by Patrick, as the man responsible for car dynamics code, damage and STUFF. The environment that you’ll glimpse is a coastal level – the way we have angled the camera will give you some snippets of the geometry of the level, and some of you might just be able to match the area that it takes place in with elements from one of the original coastal levels.

So, important points to note that we would like you to be aware of when watching:

THIS IS A SUSPENSION TEST – this video is STRICTLY a suspension test video, and we’d ask you to treat it as such.

PRE ALPHA VISUALS – the level has its base textures applied, but still needs extensive additional work now that the mega-texturing is available, plus much additional accessorizing, finessing and playing about with. The lighting levels are not set correctly yet. In short, it’s all PRE ALPHA.

TWISTER – the Twister was selected as the most appropriate of our current crop of cars for Patrick to use to tweak the fully independent suspension setup. The chassis and suspension component mesh is complete, but the bodywork has still got to be finally tweaked, detailing added, and finally note that ALL the textures/materials are WIP.

HIGHLIGHTED SUSPENSION – Batwick purposely asked for the suspension components to be coloured in bright high-visibility materials because he needed to be able to see it clearly as he worked on the code, and we have kept this material colouring in the video, so we can more clearly demonstrate the individual moving parts to you. There’s currently no smoothing applied to the components either – so that the facets of elements like the drive shafts more clearly indicate their rotation (for testing porpoises).

FIXED CAMERA – we’re using the “Car Inspection Cam” in this video, which pivots around the centre of the car and has none of the nice elasticity of the normal 3rd person camera – this is in order to concentrate the view on the suspension. It also means that you only get a “tease” view of the scene… ;D

Stainless Games announces that on the 27th of March 2014, fans who have been waiting for what has seemed an eternity (but is actually a mere 17 years) will finally be able to play the sequel to the original “points for pedestrians” car smash carnage-fest Carmageddon, as the Early Access release of Carmageddon: Reincarnation launches on Steam.

From the 27th of March 2014, the legion of long time Carmageddon fans, plus lovers of excess virtual violence everywhere will get to wreak havoc, pain and hilarity once more. This Early Access release is a milestone, as it marks the beginning of a new era in the Carmageddon story. Kickstarter Backers will be able to get behind the wheel two weeks before the Steam Early Access release.

The resulting game (which is now at the Pre-Alpha phase) has even more laughs, more bodily fluids, more thrills, more smashes and more... cows than ever.

“It’s brilliant to see our demonic baby rise screaming from the grave,” said Patrick Buckland, co-founder and CEO of Stainless Games and creative genius behind Carmageddon, “This time we could finally do the stuff that we wanted to do 17 years ago. More blood was the main thing. Rivers of livers – that’s what we wanted. Being publisher as well as developer means we get to be stupid. Properly, professionally stupid. And this game is stupider than Jupiter. I mean really silly – but in a good way. Nobody else makes games that make you cry with laughter – but we do. And did I mention the livers?"

Neil ‘Nobby’ Barnden, co-founder, Brand Director and “the other one” behind the original Carmageddon, added: “Blood and laughs. Amazing pile-ups. Awesome PowerUps. Insane… Insanity. The team is fantastic, the love we have for the title shines through, and even though the game is still pre-alpha it’s a bloody hoot to play!”
