The quirky, colorful world of Trials Fusion is heading to PS4, Xbox One, Xbox 360 and PC on April 16 as a digital download for $19.99. A retail version (including a Season Pass) will also be made available for $39.99 on the PS4, Xbox One and PC.
In addition to addictive platform racing, each track comes with its own unique set of challenges and interesting opportunities you might miss if you’re not paying close attention. Have you ever played tennis with a penguin? Well here’s your chance. If you want to rack up the most points and get all the trophies, you’ll need to pay attention to the challenges assigned to every track. Challenges like these ones:
Full Throttle – Perform a zero fault run without letting go of the gas or using the brakes
Wormholin’ – Use the afterburners to reach the portal in the sky
Rider-Cam – Hit the gyroscope and complete the level in rider-cam mode
Do. Not. Touch. – Do not touch any of the red arrow platforms on a zero fault run
Dizzy Heights – Perform at least four flips from a single jump
Path to Enlightenment – Find the secret pathway
They Belong to the Mafia – Do not touch any of the yellow obstacles
That’s just a small handful of the challenges you’ll find in the main campaign. Of course, on top of the tracks that are already in the game, you’ll be able to create your own tracks using the Editor mode and publish them for others to play and vice versa. There is also the newly added FMX tricks system – where you can master insane stunts – and a multiplayer mode that lets you take on a track with friends.
As you go through the solo campaign, you’ll need to push your skills to the limit while struggling to maintain your balance on the bike to keep from crashing. The game is entirely physics-based, meaning there’s no reliance on animation. Every race will be completely different based on how you control your player, right down to the way your avatar dies at the end of every track (because, yes, you do die, comically, at the end of every race).
Those of you who have already played Trials know how funny this game can be. It’s hard to be upset about crashing when you get to see the rider’s body ragdoll into a cliff and tumble all the way down the slope. With very frequent checkpoints and a quick restart button, you’ll never have to backtrack very far when you do crash and burn. Plus, if you know you’re about to crash, you can always bail out of a jump for added comical effect. Winning a race feels great, sure, but watching your avatar soar through the air before failing miserably is almost as fun.
