Lancarse is a Japanese game studio that has helped with the development of quite a few dungeon-crawlers, including the original Etrian Odyssey and Shin Megami Tensei: Strange Journey.

In addition to doing programming work for both those games, Lancarse also assisted with planning and design on Etrian Odyssey, and developed Lost Heroes for Bandai Namco.

This studio is currently working on a PlayStation 3 and Vita RPG, according to this week’s Famitsu magazine. (Thanks, Hokanko) While details are scant on just what sort of game this is, given Lancarse’s past involvement with dungeon-crawlers, it wouldn’t be a surprise if this were another game along those lines.

What we do know is that the game takes place sometime in the near future and that it has the word “Dimension” in its name. The game’s story is being penned by Jun Kumagai, who has worked on the scripts of the Persona 3 movies, as well as a few episodes of Persona 4: The Animation. The Famitsu report mentions that the actors hired to voice the game’s characters will be mainstream actors, rather than regular voice-actors.

Meanwhile, Takeshi Oga, who is credited with “Background Setting & Art” on Gravity Rush, is working on tower designs. Yuu Yamashita, who has worked as an animator and animation director on a number of anime series (including Naruto Shippuden and Sword Art Online) will provide character designs.

For some reason, Japanese blog Hokanko—who is one of the sources of Famitsu leaks before the magazine’s release every Thursday—has censored out parts of its report this week, so we’re going to refrain from posting further details until we have a clearer idea of just what the game is. The title is slated for release in Japan this August and will be published by FuRyu.

This week’s Famitsu magazine contains a feature on an upcoming RPG for PlayStation 3 and Vita by Lancarse, and now we know the game’s title—Lost Dimension. (Thanks, Zaregoto)

Lost Dimension will be released in Japan on August 7th and will be published by Unchained Blades publisher FuRyu. You can read a little more about it in this earlier report.

Finally revealed

This week we've been talking up a new PS3 and Vita RPG from Lancarse, the folks behind Lost Heroes, Shin Megami Tensei: Strange Journey and two Etrian Odyssey Games. We learned of its name just yesterday, and today we can finally see what it looks like.

And it looks good!

Famitsu has the first look at Lost Dimension. They say that it tells the story of an agency called S.E.A.L.E.D. and their fight against the guy that is bringing about the end of the world. Typical RPG stuff, right?

In the debut screens you'll see a few shots of the battle system and the world as well as the guy that's going to bring about the end of the world (it'll be obvious). You'll also see two of the team members of S.E.A.L.E.D., Shou Kasugai and Yoko Tachibana.

I love the character design, and that's probably because Makoto Tsuchibayashi is behind it. He worked on Devil May Cry, Sengoku Basara, Vanquish, and others as character designer.

Lost Dimension will be released on August 7 for PS3 and Vita in Japan.

I'm looking forward to hearing more about this game. You?

PS3 game that looks like a bad PSP game. Really excited.

Meanwhile, the Destructoid "gamer" (who is even the Editor-In-Chief lol) thinks it looks "really good" and is "looking forward" to hearing more. He was probably too busy copy-pasting all day long to even look at the screenshots.

Story
13 days remain until the world’s destruction. A mysterious man calling himself “The End” wages destruction and slaughter. And the Pillar emerges, a tower from in between dimensions. Appearing in the Pillar, The End declared this to the world:

“If you want to save this world, you must kill me. I am on the top floor of this tower. In order to climb the Pillar, “psychic” sacrifices are necessary. Come climb the tower, and kill your friends along the way!”

Setting
A huge structure from the in between dimensions suddenly appears in part of New York. It has a strange outward appearance and is bigger than what one could comprehend. Why someone would make such a thing is unknown.

Characters
Sho Kasugai, a psychic who sees the future – An 18-year-old boy with the gift of visions that reveal the future. Because he uses these powers to save people from destruction, he is elected to the a secret military force that opposes The End called S.E.A.L.E.D. Probably because he grew up using his powers to build the future, he has a high level of insight even without using his gift.

The End, he who will end the world – A mysterious man who indiscriminately terrorizes the entire world. Appearing in the Pillar, he pronounces a declaration of mayhem aimed at the psychics, who are the key to saving the world from him.

Youko Tachibana, a mind interfering telepathic – A female high school student who seems to appear everywhere and works hard toward her dream of becoming a singer. Her grades and appearance are pretty typical. Unconsciously, she dreams of becoming a singer as a rejection of her own “typical-ness.” She has the gift of telepathy, but despises it for some reason or another and refuses to use it unless it’s absolutely necessary.
