EOJ wrote:According to Asada's newest blog post, Cave is working on 5 new titles at the moment. This does not include the ES2BL port or DDPDFKBL. These include one or more of the following (he doesn't specify how many of each, but all together they total 5):

1) A completely new arcade game ("completely" implies it's not a sequel to anything)
2) Original Xbox 360 game
3) Xbox 360 arcade port(s)
4) Development on "new hardware"

I'd guess 1) is one, 2) is one, and 4) is one, that leaves two for 3)? Hopefully he's not including Guwange in 3).

Number 4) is ambiguous. It could mean new arcade hardware, or it could mean a different home console.

He says at the Cave festival on 12/27, he'll be able to discuss all of this.

EOJ wrote:Features all Cave ports should have

Here is a list of features we should expect from ALL Cave ports:

-A comprehesive training mode
-Ability to select the bosses (including midbosses) in the Training mode
-Online leaderboards
-Replays (uploads/downloads) for ALL game modes
-Ability to fast forward through replays, and/or skip stages
-Customizable controls, including rapid fire options for ALL buttons, and the ability to assign a single shot/laser/bomb/etc to multiple buttons
-Full video options including a range of video filters, fake scanlines, and wide-ranging overscan
-Short loads
-Gallery mode
-Stat tracking
-Tracking of cumulative time played on the game
-Instant restart
-Score saving for ALL modes

Until this becomes the standard, and indeed the bare minimum of features in a port, fans should not quit their complaining.

Awesome stuff. Finally they are making some promotional shit (apart from posters) that's actually worth buying.

So I guess that still leaves the original 360 game and the new hardware.

Cave is holding its latest "Cave Festival" fan event in Akihabara today from 10:00 to 18:00. The event will offer rare goods sales, live shmup play from master players, and playable debuts for games like iPhone DoDonPachi Daifukkatsu and Xbox 360 Guwange. Cave will also be making a number of new announcements during a live recording session of Famitsu's Midnight Live 360 Live webcast.

Image

The announcements were the following:

Pink Sweets and Muchi Muchi Pork are coming to Xbox 360 in a single retail release planned for Spring 2011. The games will not have high res visuals, but will have new modes.

Feveron coming to an unannounced platform. It was not revealed if the game will be retail or download.

DoDonPachi Daifukkatsu Version 1.5 is coming to Xbox 360 for retail release on 11/25 at ¥6,800 in standard form and ¥8,800 in limited edition. Cave Festival attendees get a DLC card that ups the game to the Version 1.51 arcade version that was on display at the event. The 360 version has two arranged modes.

Guwange, announced for Xbox Live Arcade earlier this year, is set for September or October release. They showed a live play demonstration at the event.

Regarding Feveron:

They said they'd not be able to announce the platform, although when playing it live, they were holding Xbox 360 controlers.

They also wouldn't say if it will be download or package.

...

Ah, it looks like the game is actually running on a PC now, which is why they were using the 360 controller.

I guess the original 360 game is all that remains from EOJ's list.

Finally, the catalogue from the festival is available online: http://www.cave-shop.jp/cavefes/201008/catalog.pdf.

He mentions Canabalt in an article devoted to Cave.

The entire thing is worth reading for the laughs alone.

Actually, it's not too bad. With ten minutes of editing out all of his bullshit, I could have it ready for posting on my frontpage.

Three new Cave arcade games are now emulated and working in MAME from version 0.141, namely:

- Ketsui ~Kizuna Jigokutachi~
- Espgaluda
- Dodonpachi: Daioujou (both original and Black Label)

And here's Cave's dedicated page:

http://insomnia.ac/archive/companies/cave/

I have included only the major works. I.e. no ports, no special versions (with the exception of Ibara Black Label, which I am including simply because we have a review of it, lol), and none of the company's lacklustre console-exclusive games, which were not developed by the arcade division.

I may or may not decide to expand the list in the future. If in the meantime someone feels like compiling a list of all the games I did NOT include, or even better a COMPLETE list, that'd be awesome, and this would be the place to post it.

I linked the official site and CAVE-STG on the sidebar. If you know of any other Cave-dedicated sites (or even single pages) which you think would be appropritate to link there, let me know. They have to be worth visiting, though: I am not going to burden the page with silly fansites that merely have artwork rips or idiotic fan reviews.

The point is that that page will become the No. 1 link on the internet on the subject of Cave; the first page that someone should be linked to when they want to find out more about the company.

Note that their Espgaluda section is a dumbed-down, abridged version of my review:

http://www.world-of-arcades.net/Cave/Es ... galuda.htm

I was asked to provide some text, and because I was too busy at the time I simply gave them this. I've been meaning to ask them to remove it and write something themselves but, again, I am too busy to actually do it.

In any case, it's better if someone writes something new than simply keeping the dumbed-down text they have at the moment.
