Counter-Strike: Global Offensive (CS: GO) will expand upon the team-based action gameplay that it pioneered when it was launched 12 years ago.

CS: GO features new maps, characters, and weapons and delivers updated versions of the classic CS content (de_dust, etc.). In addition, CS: GO will introduce new gameplay modes, matchmaking, leader boards, and more.

"Counter-Strike took the gaming industry by surprise when the unlikely MOD became the most played online PC action game in the world almost immediately after its release in August 1999," said Doug Lombardi at Valve. "For the past 12 years, it has continued to be one of the most-played games in the world, headline competitive gaming tournaments and selling over 25 million units worldwide across the franchise. CS: GO promises to expand on CS' award-winning gameplay and deliver it to gamers on the PC as well as the next gen consoles and the Mac."

CS: GO is being developed by Valve in cooperation with Seattle-based Hidden Path Entertainment. The title is targeted for release in early 2012 and will be playable at this year's PAX Prime and Eurogamer Expo.

The PlayStation 3 version will offer three control methods using the DualShock 3 controller, PlayStation Move or USB keyboard/mouse.

AMEN. A-FUCKING-MEN.

(Not that I plan on playing the PS3 version, but still. This shit should be standard even for console-only FPSes -- it should have been standard since the fucking Xbox.)

Since we launched the CS:GO Maps Workshop back in February, over 1,400 maps have been uploaded. The CS team has been consistently blown away by how complex, well thought out, and just plain fun so many of these maps have been.

We really wanted these maps to reach a wider audience, and also get the people making these amazing new game experiences rewarded for their efforts. But how? Luckily, in the time it takes a CT to hold up a flashbang and announce that it’s a flashbang, we hit upon the answer.

“Operation Payback” marks the first of an ongoing series of limited-time updates aimed at giving a well-earned financial reward to some of CS:GO’s most popular and prolific mapmakers. For a limited time, you can buy a pass half-priced for $2.99. That’ll get you unlimited access to a Classic Casual map group featuring seven of the highest-voted Workshop Maps. Invite your friends (even if they don’t have a pass) and enjoy uninterrupted low-ping play on official servers—all while rewarding CS:GO’s top-voted virtual mapmakers with real money. Buying a pass also gets you a one-of-a-kind challenge coin, upgradable by playing and viewable wherever your avatar is shown. “Operation Payback” will be live from now until July 31st, and it’s currently half-priced, so get in there!

And remember: “Payback” is just the beginning. Future Operations will highlight all-new collections of popular maps. So stay tuned, keep mapmaking, and keep upvoting!

Counter-Strike 2 came out yesterday, for anyone who cares. It's not even a new game, it's the same quarter-of-a-century-old garbage with a new coat of paint, which knowing Valve, probably isn't even good paint. Still no civilians, still nonsensical maps since there's no reason for terrorists to be targeting these empty sites, still crappy shooting mechanics from before many of the players were even born. Even the launch trailer is rotten lol, I couldn't even finish watching it, its music sounds like it was written by a child in the age where great trailer music is flooding YouTube and you can license it for peanuts. Has there ever been a less aesthetically sensitive large dev company than Valve? They are worse than even Bethesda. I don't know why anyone would play this over Siege.

You can't play CS:GO anymore by the way, if for some crazy reason you wanted to. This version overwrites that, which is why I am using the same thread for them.
