Gatac Syulen

Unread postby icycalm » 15 Nov 2023 21:40

Coming on Friday, possibly straight-to-flyable. First flyable Gatac ship. That's how anime arrives in Star Citizen.

Rumor has it it's either a cargo or a transporter ship. The wiki has a page on it already: https://starcitizen.tools/Syulen

Damn cool ship though.

Rheiard wrote:It's not scaled wrong. The Syulen interior is like ships in the Expanse. It has 3 decks but they are all perpendicular to the orientation in which it flies. So the decks are layed out vertical but it flies horizontal.

The Expanse is apparently a cool sci-fi show that's among the inspirations for Star Citizen. I've put it on my list.

PolicyWonka wrote:That would make it the first ship since the Reliant to do something like that, right? If that’s true, I feel like it’s going to be a death trap with the current physics. Lol

Rheiard wrote:It's the only ship in the game to do that period. Even the Reliant's main fuselage stays aligned with the orientation of the chairs. The Syulen's chair will hover upwards and rotate back into the cockpit so you'll be facing straight up in landing mode.

SpacedDebris wrote:It's way bigger than I was expecting it to be. It looks like it'd be a sitting duck for any kind of incoming fire.

BrainKatana wrote:Unless it’s a starter ship with a S3 shield, this is pretty much a given.

pacedDebris wrote:Anyone who tries to fight in that is just asking to die. It has so much frontal surface area that the enemy would have to try to be able to miss it.

That's why (illegal) aliens lose wars lol.

That said, who's thinking about buying this? I know I want one.

I like the idea of my character using human ships for work, but being an alien ship collector on the side with a hangar in some desert somewhere full of all the alien ships he can get his hands on. Flies them for fun on weekends.

I should be able to roleplay this once persistent hangars go in, which will reportedly be the first player-owned real-estate. Maybe we'll have them by Easter. Which means I need to step on my alien-ship-collecting. I don't have any yet. Some of them are said to be hard to get. Have to finish an Arena Commander mode to get them, or even worse.

It’s next-level design. Nothing remotely like it has ever been seen in a videogame, and even in movies you’d be hard pressed to find something cooler. If this is what the first Gatac ship’s like, and a mere starter ship no less, I can’t wait to see a heavy fighter from them in a few years.

So the rumors that it would be a starter—which I failed to report in my OP—were correct. Barney clued me in on Discord when he said the cargo space is too small for a hauler. But for a starter it’s just right.

I am curious to see the price point. I think it will be around Titan + alien tax level. Around $75 would be my guess, and if so, it’d be a bargain. It’s a must-buy for me.

P.S. The Storm AA looks amazing too, but that’s another thread.

Love the base-building preview in this. And the alien-themed ad shows the cinematics team is endlessly inspired. Even the video description is themed in that way, “It’s out there” surely refers to the X-Files’ “The truth is out there”.

I note that the video description calls the ship a “compact hauler”, not a starter. So unless the video team made an error, it seems that’s the way this ship is meant to be leaning. Unless they are precluded from using the word “starter” for in-lore text, so they went with the closest they could.

It would be interesting if the haul was supposed to be humans for experimentation.
