Maybe someone can enlighten me on this, or point to someone else who can.

Why is it okay to depict, say, cars in movies without a license from the manufacturer (and cars, moreover, which are getting smashed left right and centre) whereas in videogames it's not?

And why stop at cars? Do I have to get the permission of the Hoover company in order to have one of their vacuum cleaners in a frame in my movie? Etc. The situation seems to me absurd.

Or the permission of Armani to have my protagonist wear an Armani suit? Then for every frame of a movie I would have to procure thousands upon thousands of permissions! It's ridiculous.
