[AC] Xi Yo Gi Shi Re Zuang 2

This will be known as Saiyuu Shakuyaku Den 2 in Japan and Oriental Legend 2 to us ignorant gaijin. It was announced almost a year ago and is supposed to finally come out sometime in the middle of this month. I can't even remember what the last 2D arcade beat 'em up was... does anyone have any idea?

Looks gorgeous and no wonder, since it's supposed to showcase IGS's new board, the PolyGame Master 2. (For those who haven't heard of IGS and of the original PGM you can check brief descriptions of (all?) its games here.)

Poor-quality video demonstration here:

Lots of awesome info (pics of the posters, instructions, etc.) from a location test which took place in Japan back in August:

And the two official sites:

Finally, a fansite has posted tons of pics/links to videos, etc:

The most intriguing aspect of the game is the card system it will use, about which nothing is known at the moment. Other than that it's supposed to support 4 players simultaneously, and it has a roster of ten selectable characters.

Thanks to Macaw and Recap for pretty much all of the above info.

Middle of this month eh? and I still havnt acquired a cab to play it on when I eventually do buy it (I came so close to getting a pretty decent cab recently for only $100AUS, but the dude selling it has now disappeared off the face of the planet)

That would be Knights of Valour: Seven Star Spirits for the Atomiswave released either late 2003 or early 2004, I cant remember. For comparisons sake, the last Japanese developed 2d arcade beat-em-up was Sengoku Denshou 2001, released of course in 2001. The Japanese really don't want to take any risks in this genre nowadays do they?

That Lazy Grazy site says that your character level and collected items are saved on the card, as well as your high scores (probably the best feature)

Would this then mean that all the high scores are therefore reserved for the players with max level characters and all the best items? Or perhaps the difficulty for the stages scales like in Ghost Squad. I guess it wont be too long before we find out.

If you end up getting it I'll be expecting a review!

Except if you count Sega's new Dynamite Ex... which is 3D.
