I really enjoyed this review:

Worth reading is also this additional comment from the reviewer:

the problem with reviewing a game like this is that it’s difficult to reconcile the fact that it’s working within a well-worn and mostly dead genre. and though I’m as cynical about RPG’s (and this game is really nothing but an RPG) as the next abdn writer, I still think some RPG’s can still do interesting things within the format that speak to the greater potential of the medium. and soul blazer is really exceptional because it’s incredibly low on bullshit (though there still is bullshit, of course) and high on interesting content. and hey — the actual game mechanics ain’t bad either. and they do work together better than they do in most RPG’s… so yeah. it’s tough. I think I’m doing the game justice, though, for what it is.

the tone is a little flippant, but… well. yes.

Note that Toups is an artfag, so there might be factual and/or serious judgement errors in there, but hey, at least it's well-written, and it made me feel like playing the game just to see how different from his my own opinion would be.
