Rumours abound this morning that Project Gotham 5 is in development by Lucid Games (ex-Criterion and Bizarre) and will be launching on the new Microsoft console this year.

Seems both will have a PGR style racer at launch, if the rumours are true.

I can't wait to argue over whether a screenshot is in-game or a real-life photo again :D

Here's a quick recap of the story so far:

Metropolis Street Racer
Played maybe 20 minutes of it. Cool game, would like to see more.

Project Gotham Racing
5-star awesome racing game. Maybe even a masterpiece, on top of looking absolutely unreal. Played the fuck out of it on several occasions, probably unlocking almost everything in both the European and Japanese versions.

Project Gotham Racing 2
Played the Japanese version for a bit but couldn't get really into it since they'd downgraded the series to 30FPS.

Project Gotham Racing 3
Still 30FPS if I am not mistaken, but goddamn gorgeous next-gen launch title and with a revolutionary dashboard view that made the game a must-play. Played a few hours of it but nowhere near as much as I wanted to and should have played it.

Project Gotham Racing 4
Still haven't got round to trying it.

Project Gotham Racing 5

Project Gotham Devs Get Back In The Race With 2K Drive

2K Drive isn't just a new racing game from the makers of Project Gotham Racing. It's a massive mobile celebration of automotive culture — from the makers of Project Gotham Racing.

Coming this fall to iOS as a premium title (hooray, let us pay for things already!), 2K Drive is going to give the likes of Real Racing 3 and Gameloft's upcoming Asphalt 8: Airborne a real run for their money. The screenshot at the top says it all: this isn't just a game about shiny red cars. There are plenty of those, licensed and original (scroll down), but there's also muddy pickup trucks.

Lucid Games, a studio created by senior developers at PGR studio Bizarre Creations, is crafting the enthusiasts dream mobile game. There's street racing, drag racing, track racing, off-road racing, and a bunch of driving mini-games. They've got cars from Dodge, Fiat, Ford, GM, Icon, Local Motors, Mazda, McLaren, Nissan and So-Cal. I've never even heard of some of those.

2K Drive will be a hub for mobile news as well as mobile racing, with a cover page that pulls news from popular automotive blogs and publications, allowing users to like and share news.

All this, from the folks that made what some consider the greatest racing video game series ever. Count me me.
