This will simply be an "update" of Neo-Geo's Toukon with a couple of new characters and awful upscaled graphics (much like the PS2 iteration) in order to make some money out of this fighting mini-boom, I'm sure, but seeing Atlus back in the arcade video-game market is always good news. Arcadia Magazine's announcement from Aries no Kobayan:

Atlus was supposed to have already made a comeback in the arcades with Vulcan Wars:

It has completely fallen off the radar though...

In other news, I am starting to get seriously fed up with all these damn cheapo fighting games. How can they possibly think they can make enough money to make all this worth their while, when even stuff like Basara X, which had a much higher profile than stuff like this can ever have, utterly bombed?

It eluded me when I posted the news, but the actually curious thing with Matsuri is that Atlus didn't have anything to do with Toukon and Bonnou Kaihou other than licensing, and yet this is clearly using those episodes' material. Most likely they hired Noise, but still...

There haven't been any news on Vulcan Wars since the September 2007 AM Show.

Made a silly mistake -- not a Famitsu article but from Arcadia Magazine actually, much like the one on Daemon Bride.

Confirming my speculation, this site lets us know that Noise is developing it. Type X as the platform and guess what -- the possibility of all the graphic material being redrawn in hi-res, from what I can tell from these screens:

Have serious doubts about the resolution thing. I tried to check some related screens from the previous versions and ended up with this. For laughs:

Those character portraits look hideous when stuffed into those circular frames. I'm guessing that Unknown Character 01 will be an Arcana Heart look-alike. And I'm going to further speculate that the new characters won't even be done by Range Murata.

It also kind of shows where Type X is in the market now that budget crap like this is appearing on it instead of on Naomi and System 256.

That's a good guess given that Murata wasn't even involved in Bonnou Kaihou's new designs.

Well, the Type X has been "there" since the moment the Type X 2 was released. Can't see a problem with that. Trouble Witches is also using it, and looks really promising. I'd agree that it's a bit weird having Naomi and System 256, though (especially the latter, considering possible ports and whatnot). You never know what's really going on behind the scenes, anyway.

Hi-res just for the backgrounds and HUD:

I don't know why I even hesitated for a moment.
