Armored Core: Verdict Day is in development at From Software, the latest issue of Weekly Famitsu reveals. The PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 sequel will launch in Japan on September 26 for 6,800 yen.

New features include a reformed, Armored Core V-based match-making system with added components, and the ability to import your Armored Core V save data.

During territory conflicts, players will be able to choose which side they belong to. The outcome of the battle could lead to a change in the world’s balance.

Namco Bandai has announced Armored Core: Verdict Day, From Software’s latest sequel in the robot battle franchise, for a PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 launch this summer in North America and this fall in Europe and Australia.

In Verdict Day, the world is in chaos and important natural resources needed for the survival of competing factions are scavenged and fought across the world with Armored Core mechs. Players will enlist in one of the various in-game factions, command a squadron of up to 20 members, and fight for territory in a dystopian future torn apart by war and stripped of natural resources.

The game will include a persistent multiplayer mode, new matchmaking system, and “robust feature sets” for its co-op and multiplayer modes. Operator Mode, which debuted in Armored Core V, will return with “new upgrades,” allowing players to command their squadron from a top-down point-of-view. Operators can set rally points, mark targets, and receive real-time in-cockpit views from other players and AI squad members.

Armored Core V owners will be able to import their save data and use their already-created Armored Core mech from the previous game, then build upon it with “hundreds” of new parts.

http://www.mechadamashii.com/news/news- ... on-resets/

Some nice juicy news for Armored Core Verdict Day has surfaced today. The main point of good news is that the game world will be reset at the end of each game season (or if one team dominates all areas, effectively winning that season). The season resets will also have each group revert back to their starting positions, so no one group will have the advantage over the other. This is a big improvement over the previous game and harks back to how the various factions in Chrome Hounds were handled. Following on from that there will also now be a total of 56 maps in Verdict Day. This naturally includes the levels from the previous game (though we imagine they’ll be tweaked) but this is quite a big jump up in terms of playable areas. Hopefully these won’t be night and day versions of the same map, as that would be a bit bloody cheeky really. Finally players that relegated to jetpack status during a match will be able to take photos. These will be stored in the player’s garage and propagated through the game’s status updates. Whether this feature will work with the (Japanese) Armored Core Official Partnership site remains to be seen but it would be pretty great if that were the case.

Description of single-player modes from Verdict Day Facebook page:

http://www.facebook.com/armoredcore

3 major ways to enjoy the single player style

① Enjoy the Story Mission
Story Mode to play the single player missions along the story line. The purpose is to clear all 60 missions and get to the story ending. 2 players coop play is possible for all missions and a UNAC or a mercenary can be selected as a partner. Once the story is cleared, another mode, "HARD CORE MODE" appears for more challenges.
② Play as a Single Player Team in the World Mode (Online Multi Player Mode) Create a single player team and battle with UNAC AC (AI) as the team members. It is possible from this title to send only the UNAC and participate the battle as an operator.
③ Enjoy as a Mercenary Get hired by another team or a player and battle together. No communication via voice chat with a mercenary so no worries to play.

◆ What is the HARD CORE MODE ・・・
A Mode which appears once all the stories are cleared. Clear the story with high difficulty condition, such as limited Remained AC, increased Damage Taken. 10 different modes with variety of conditions in the HARD CORE MODE. The player who cleared the HARD CORE MODE will be registered in the clear ranking.

A little bit of info on what operator mode will allow you to do with the UNAC AI.

It goes without saying that some games are seemingly pick up and play, and its perceived accessibly is a real benefit, helping to popularize it. Whereas others are seemingly way too difficult, hence why attracting new players can equally tricky. It could be argued that the Armored Core franchise is in the latter category.

At Namco Bandia’s Global Gamers Day, From Software’s Toshifumi Nabeshiba was on hand to show off Armored Core Verdict Day. Despite what one might think, the latest AC title is not a sequel to the previous installment, Armored Core V (or Armored Core 5), or so I was told. At the very least, it doesn’t share the same relationship or status that Armored Core 4 and For Answer does.

With each new Armored Core game, the team tries to come up with something new and fresh. And with well over a dozen installments thus far, it has become quite the challenge these days. What’s new this time? A focus on online, squad-based play. Which in turn might help attract new players, or at the very least, lend a hand to existing ones who have it rough.

Nabeshiba explained that there are two types of people who play Armored Core V, or at least try to: people who are good at mech games, and those who are not. And trustily, there is always "a strong player" and "a weak player." A weak player is sometimes able to hang in there, but never gets the sense of accomplishment that those who are simply more proficient, obviously.

Enter the brand new operator mode. Basically, a player is able to create a squad of AI controlled units. The behavior of said computer driven support is contingent upon various factors, such as its classification, though the player can fine-tune these mechs in a variety of ways. Customization has always been the name of the game, but even the AI can be tinkered around with.

Nabeshiba demonstrated the versatility of the AI system, called UNAC, by having human players face off again an entirely AI driven squad, one that has been crafted by a colleague. And it was no contest; the AI mechs handily destroyed the opposition. Perhaps it wasn’t the fairest of fights, since the AI squad was orchestrated by someone who helped make the game, but it was stated repeatedly that Verdict Day is perfect for players who aren’t good at action games, but who wish to still play.
