Amidst all the E3 announcements happening this week, we have a special one of our own – introducing, Destiny of Spirits, a new free-to-play social experience that integrates strategic fantasy battles with your everyday PS Vita activity.

Our teams in Japan, in conjunction with Q Entertainment (Lumines, Child of Eden), have been working hard to bring a gaming experience that you can play every day, but more importantly, provide a community where you’ll be able to contribute, even when you’re not playing.

Collaborate with friends in battle
In Destiny of Spirits, evil Spirits lay claim to areas around the globe, and it’ll take the collaboration of friends around the world to remove these threats, known as Chaos Spirits. Battle by customising your own team with powerful elemental Spirits, trade Spirits with friends around the world to diversify your squad, or let your friends borrow from your collection – the game is much more dynamic the more friends you connect with.

Hunt for spirits with location-based technology
As Spirits are all around us, there are several ways to obtain new Spirits and add them to your collection. By using the Vita’s location-based technology and traveling real world distances with your PS Vita – on the bus, in the car, on the train – you can unlock new Spirits with every journey. Interaction with fellow players from around the world will enable you to trade spirits and obtain unique Spirits ONLY available in certain regions – your friends in Japan and the US will have an entirely different set of Spirits that you’ll want to get a hold of!

Find your daily destiny
One feature we’re particularly excited about is the Destiny Engine. Every day, you’ll receive a unique fortune that will guide your destiny in a number of ways. In battle, your fortune could increase or decrease certain Spirits or elemental attacks, so you’ll need to plan your assaults wisely. On another day, your destiny may affect your travels by increasing the chance to obtain extremely rare Spirits. With a new fortune every day, you’ll be constantly on the hunt for new Spirits or defeating evil ones, and you’ll want to be checking back every day to see what your fortune will hold.

Let us know what you think of the game and we’ll get back on the Blog to give you more details about the Spirits and your Destiny that awaits…

Hello PlayStation Blog readers! In our last post , we provided an overview of Destiny of Spirits, a PS Vita game launching later this year. Today, we’re back to share more details about its social aspects.

Destiny of Spirits is a free-to-play, location-based, social strategy game. Players from around the world work cooperatively in turn-based, RPG-style action to battle fierce Chaos spirits. The goal? Purify and save the world.

In Destiny of Spirits, friends will make your journey easier. Each day, The Destiny Engine — which is based on Western and Eastern astrology — will lead you to other players that the engine selects as compatible, based on a number of factors including birthday, name and location.

You’ll greet each day with new suggestions for allies across the world, and the more friends you have, the more benefits you can gain! The gameplay really opens up once you have friends. And working together with people across the world will affect how you strategically interact with Destiny of Spirits.

Trading Spirits
Spirits are unique to certain geographical locations around the globe. However, you can trade spirits with friends to grow and diversify your spirit collection, so the more friends you have increases the potential to gain more spirits — even those spirits you can’t obtain in your region. The distance between you and your friend on the map determines how long it will take to complete the trade.

Renting Spirits
By renting spirits, you can borrow a friend’s spirit to join you in battle. Borrow the right spirit and gain from its unique “supporter skills,” which include important buffs like damage modifiers. Renting spirits costs Destiny Points, but it can be the difference between victory and defeat!

Destiny Strike
During battle, a friend can trigger a “Destiny Strike,” a support attack for when you need it most. As you can see in the image below, a red dot will appear during battle to signal the Destiny Strike, which may be the final attack you need to take down a formidable opponent. The more friends you have, the better chance of it triggering.

Do you see a pattern emerging? With Destiny of Spirits, working collaboratively with gamers around the globe will not only enhance the overall experience, but help you succeed in battle.

There’s a lot more to come from the Destiny of Spirits universe, so check back for more updates soon!
