[WII] The House of the Dead: Overkill

Whored out to British developer Headstrong Games, formerly known as Kuju Entertainment. I am sure it's their first light gun game and I am sure it will suck. Meanwhile, the excellent HOD4 remains unported.

I must admit it's a good trailer, so who knows. Screens still look worse than even 2 though; they are somewhere between 1 and 2:

I really wish that developers would stop pretending the Wiimote is in any way, shape or form an acceptable substitute for a light gun. I have a light gun that operates on the same principle as the Wiimote but using five anchor points, so there is a 1:1 correspondence between where you point the gun and where the shot registers on the TV screen. Until developers realize this, light gun games on the Wii are just going to be a joke.

Addendum: I also wish Sega would do a proper port of the original House of the Dead to a modern console (3D Ages 2500 maybe?)

Well, Nintendo announced the Wii MotionPlus peripheral at E3, a device that will allow the Wiimote true 1:1 correspondence.

Of course, I kinda assumed the controller would already have 1:1 correspondence at launch. This crap better come packaged with a game or something.

The zombies seem like they groggily pulled themselves out of bed minutes ago--the menace of the Sega games is just not there. It's pitifully easy in comparison to them, and the Quentin Tarantino Grindhouse aesthetic is tired and unimaginative. Not to mention the constant swearing, which comes across like a 10-year old trying to impress some high school kids with his knowledge of the word "fuck."

Is it unplayable? No. Is it by far the worst entry in the series? Yes.

Good one-minute review. I'll be using it when the section makes its comeback.
