Mielke's response, along with all the other talking heads who have tried to weigh in on this, still can't see (or won't admit) the real reason for the backlash. Hell, most of the people who reamed Fish out don't grasp it either. Fish didn't use these words, but this is what his comment actually meant: "Japanese games suck, so here is my answer, Fez."

While the bib wearing drool brigade were honking off about another indeez game, people with brains were saying, "Wait, Japanese games suck but the best you have is this piddly little platformer whose mechanics and inspiration came from a Japanese game?" Like all the other punks, he of course didn't want his game judged against, well, anything else. But he didn't realize that by throwing down the gauntlet that is exactly what happened, and he nullified his +10 Indie Shield of Avoid Criticism.
