The Elder Scrolls series

Here is a review of Skyrim by Conan O'Brien:

This would basically be the gist of what I'd say if I could ever bring myself to play a TES game long enough to write a review. The games are not merely bad, they are downright depressing. They are almost like "indie" games in this respect. Granted, I have only played Oblivion (and for about as much as O'Brien played Skyrim), but everything I've seen or heard of all the other games in the series indicates that it's the same story with all of them. People who say that the older games were better are like people who debate which fast food joint has better food: troglodytes who know nothing about either food or games.

A further point is that the TES games' problems pretty much apply universally to the Western 3D ARPG genre, for as far back as I can remember, excepting the early dungeon crawlers. The moment those dungeon crawlers left the dungeons behind and stepped into the light, they went to shit immediately. The why and how of this would be marginally interesting to explain, if I could ever bother to retry some of the earlier entries for long enough to write about them. Until then, the above will should suffice as my stance on the entire subgenre.

tl;dr: I'd rather play through the lamest of JRPGs than this shite.
