Limbo is going to be released tomorrow.

I first learned about this game through a trailer that was later revealed to be an animation, not actual footage of a videogame. This led me to believe it would never be released, but the years went by and here we are.

I like the look of this game. Apparently there is no dialogue and the areas are all seamlessly connected. Reminds me a little of the awesome Delphine Software games.

I do love the graphical style but I am worried by how simple it all seems to be, most accounts seem to be placing it at around the three or four hour mark for completion first time through.

This made me laugh (emphasis is mine):

Around the halfway point the puzzles start ramping up enormously in difficulty, to the point that some individual puzzles can stump people for several minutes. The last few puzzles in the game especially can really bust the brain. That said, the puzzles aren’t as challenging or multifaceted as, say, Braid, so don’t expect the most mentally strenuous game.

I suppose I shouldn't be expecting much more from an "art game" costing 1200 Microsoft chocolate coins.

Looks like Bionic Commando Re-Armed (filter overload plus basic backgrounds) turned in a college art film, meaning even worse production values. But hey it's black and white and has a vignette. Yoshi's Island didn't have a vignette so it wasn't art.

And?

If you plan on making more posts like this I suggest you go and make them here:

As for the graphical style, I'll say this much for now: I am sick and tired of the stunted little sprites the fagots always seem to use in their games. It's always some stunted little child with a hunched back or whatever. For fuck's sakes already. It's a VIDEOGAME -- your avatar DOES NOT HAVE TO LOOK LIKE YOU.

I guess I haven't made clear how offensive this post is. It is DOUBLY offensive. On the one hand because it suggests that, since practically all arcades ever last less than the "three or four hour mark for completion", they must be "simple". And on the other hand because it suggests that it is normal for someone to want to "complete" a game that has stage progression more than once.

Both implications are insanely idiotic. Insanely. I would have bitchslapped you if you had blurted out the above in my presence.

"Puzzles" that can be "solved" within minutes/seconds if not immediately are now considered "devilish". I wonder what these fagots would call Loop Salad's puzzles. They'd have to invent new words. Which would suit them just fine because they love doing that.

Original review thread here: http://forum.insomnia.ac/viewtopic.php?t=3303

And here are my major edits, in bold:

Icemael wrote:So if there's no challenge to the game, what is there? Not much. The monochrome graphics look quite nice (apart from, you know, THE LACK OF COLOR in them)

I added this line to underscore the fact that doing monochrome games IS MUCH EASIER on the graphic artists, which is why we'll no doubt be seeing many more of them in the future. The fact that fagots tend to automatically regard as "art" anything that's black & white will also be a factor in this development, no doubt.

icycalm wrote:and certainly a far cry from recent cutting-edge 2D efforts such as Vanillaware's Oboro Muramasa [ > ] or Konami's Ubawareta Kokuin [ > ] (both of which, by the way, are running on infinitely inferior hardware than this little "indie sensation").

This is all mine. Its purpose is obvious, I think. I edited out Icemael's original comment about "fellow XBLA games", since stuff like Metal Slug are by no means XBLA games, and in general the comparison was kind of pointless.

Another thing. I used your username for the byline, but if you'd rather use a name instead (your real one or a pen-name -- either's fine), let me know in this thread.

Cool.

You can put the name Ismael Söderström in the byline.

I think the problem with these "art games" is that they treat the controls/mechanics as an afterthought. It's really blatant in Limbo, since the controls feels so floaty to the point where it almost renders itself unplayable, especially during the brain leech parts.

This was not mentioned in the review, though it would have been a deal-breaker by itself, even if everything else were awesome... I wonder if it's true.

Today, IGN can confirm that Limbo is coming to PlayStation Vita.

Originally released in July of 2010 on Xbox Live, Limbo later migrated to the likes of PlayStation Network and Steam. And even though it’s a smaller, digital title, it was even released at retail.
