Deadly Premonition studio Access Games is developing Drakengard 3, or Drag-On Dragoon 3 as it’s called in Japan, for PlayStation 3 under the publishing of Square Enix, the latest issue of Weekly Famitsu reveals.

An action RPG, the sequel stars female protagonist Zero, who has a younger sister named One. Zero is an Utautai, a person with the ability to manipulate magic through song. A flower grows on her right eye, and her left arm is an artificial one. She doesn’t mind having a relationship with a number of men. She has a violent personality and is easily annoyed.

One is also an Utautai, however, her personality is completely opposite her sister’s, who she doesn’t get along well with. She is intellectual and serious.

Drakengard 3 will maintain the series’ trademark high-speed action. And the style switching between air (dragon flights) and ground combat style, too. Missions are mainly land-based battles, and when splashed with blood Utautai (therefore, the player) obtain more power. A screenshot in Famitsu shows Zero fighting a large group of soldiers.

“It’s not Drakenguard or Nier,” said creative director Yoko Taro. “If you’re expecting that, you’ll be disappointed.”

Development on Drakengard 3 is 60 percent complete. A release date was not announced. The official website should be available tomorrow (http://www.jp.square-enix.com/dod3/).

We recently reported that Drakengard 3’s protagonist, Zero, will have other allies aside from dragons to help fight on the battlefield. They’re male characters called “Apostles,” who we’ve briefly described. This week’s issue of Dengeki gives us a closer look.

According to Dengeki, the Apostles serve the role of… satiating Zero’s sexual desires. She can also take along two of them to help out on the battlefield.

Here are details surrounding some of Drakengard 3’s Apostles:

Deto

A beautiful young man with a contradictory brutal personality. He has sharp insights, but also a sadistic nature, as he feels joy when deeply injuring opponents and hearing them scream in pain when tormented.

Decartes

A middle-aged brawny man with glasses who fights with his fists. He secretly considers his pains and adversities to be some sort of rewarding trial that he enjoys in a masochistic manner, but he still has common sense and consideration towards women.

Octa

An older man who uses special ring-like weapons. He walks around wearing a pair of amazingly tall wooden clogs. The old man is considered the best of the Apostles when it comes to sexual activities, an abnormality for his age that he is proud for.

Cento

Cento is a young man with a cross-shaped scar across his stomach. Cento’s weapon of choice are dual blades. He’s a handsome man who has nothing but absolute confidence in himself, but he often makes the mistake of announcing his knowledge, which might seem cocky to others.

New details and screenshots on Drakengard 3 have come out of Square Enix.

As previously detailed, the game stars Zero, an Utautai gifted with the ability to manipulate magic through song. She has a hostile relationship with her sister One, also an Utautai. Zero’s goal is to kill all of the Utautai, but One strives to bring peace to the world.

It is unknown where Utautai come from, but they’re dispatched from “Churches” in each nation. All Utautai are women and given number names, rather than real ones. We've met two, up until now. Today, we meet Five.

Five (pictured) is quoted as saying “Please, touch my breasts… it’s good for their growth.” She is the Utautai who governs the water kingdom and one of six sisters. She has great confidence and greed, and relentless cravings, but the moment she obtains what she desires, her interest is lost. She speaks slovenly and loves to allude her sex life. Her appetite knows no bounds.

Drakengard 3 Unleashes 'Beauty in Carnage' to North America

Characterized by a strong anti-hero theme, action role-playing game Drakengard 3 is available today in North America, announced Square Enix, Inc.

Exclusively for the PlayStation 3 computer entertainment system, the prequel title to the original Drakengard is set within a medieval world. Here, six goddess-like sisters known as “Intoners” undo the peace they brought to the land as the eldest sister, Zero, undertakes a murderous campaign to destroy her younger siblings. With a story that offers many twists and turns, players will find themselves unraveling the mystery of Zero and her true intentions.

Creative Director Taro Yoko explores why a video game protagonist defeats hordes of enemies in the special launch day video interview. He recounts how he has sought to resolve this question throughout the Drakengard series as well as the spin-off title NIER. The full interview is available here.

Fans of the franchise will be able to experience the director’s vision in its entirety via downloadable content (DLC), previously in the Collector’s Edition with the game for $64.99, exclusively on PlayStation Network. The new Digital Collector’s Edition includes One’s Prologue, Japanese Voice Pack, the NIER Costume Pack, Mikhail’s (the dragon) Giant Baby Hat, Caim’s Garb, and six PlayStation Network themes.

Individual DLC is also available, including the Japanese Voice Pack, Manah’s Garb for Zero (from Drakengard 2), two music remix packs that change certain tracks in the game to either the original Drakengard titles or NIER. More DLC is planned to be available soon, including the Intoner Sisters’ Prologue stages.

Drakengard 3 Standard Edition for the PlayStation 3 system is available for $49.99, as well as a digital download on the PlayStation Network and Square Enix Online Store.
