Don't mean to bite your head off or anything, but whenever I read something like this (and, trust me, I read stuff like that ALL THE TIME), I feel like killing someone.

Can you try to imagine the implications if one agreed with EVERYTHING written on a website? There are two possibilities in such a case:

1. That ALL the people writing the website are gods, and that you are smart enough to discern that.

or

2. That you are braindead.

Take your pick.

Anyway, don't mind me, I just woke up and feeling cranky. Welcome to the forum.

Ive been checking this site lately and for the most part i was agreeing with alot of stuff but these forums have made me stop and think.Icycalm is an asshole to the extreme.I didnt notice this at first...hell i thought stuff was kinda funny except a few examples that seemed kind of out of place.

Icycalm, i realise this is your site, your home on the internet or whatever. Dude ...you are an asshole. Why?Is life really THAT bad?I know you are upset about some game reviews and you dont like some terminology that is used on the usual sites.1up sucks....gamefaqs suck...they all suck, but dude...im not sure this place is much better. It almost would be except for one simple thing...you are an asshole. Why dont you stop being an asshole and empathize a bit more. Not everyone has the same background/opinion you have. You epitimize elitism...i didnt see that at first.Hell at first i thought you had a point. Now i realize you dont. You're just kind of a cock sucker for no reason at all.Anyhow, goodluck with the site dude, i think its apparent i wont be back.

I've no idea why this particular thread is so good at flushing out all the morons of the internet, but I am glad it does. It's back to lamefaqs for you, Mr. Octopod. Have fun.

I guess so. Maybe I should sticky it, as some form of moronbait or something.

Harlequin wrote:Its cool man, just wanted to post saying i enjoy the site thats all.

I know, I know. It's just that I sometimes get ticked off when people point out to me the obvious. It feels a bit like an insult, you dig? Again and again, I see people post in forums "Yeah, that Insomnia site is rather good, even though I don't always agree with everything they say". I mean for fuck's sake's dude, how could you POSSIBLY agree with EVERYTHING we say? I mean I've read Nietzsche, Wittgenstein and Baudrillard, three of the smartest human beings to have ever walked this planet, and I STILL don't agree with EVERY SINGLE THING they said, let alone with a website about fucking videogames.

But you know why people add that disclaimer at the end of their praise? I'll tell you why. They do it as a way of asserting their intelligence. It's not good enough to say "Insomnia is a rather good website", which is anyway more critical than saying "Insomnia is an excellent website", or even "Insomnia is the best game website in the world". No, you see, that's not good enough. SOME people feel the need to make 100% sure that we know they are capable of THINKING ON THEIR OWN, and coming up with THEIR OWN OPINIONS. Hence the "even though I don't agree with everything" nonsense.

How about the telephone, can we take the telephone seriously? Or the mail? Or face-to-face conversation? Smoke signals? Anything?

Does it even matter what form of communication people use to exchange ideas? Why exactly are we supposed to take all OTHER mediums of communication seriously, but not the internet?

And what is the point of posting in an online forum at all, if we can't choose to take SOME things seriously? If everything on the internet is one big LOL, why bother?

So yeah. Your philosopher doesn't sound very wise from where I'm standing.

You shouldn't take certain parts of the internet seriously. I kind of look at it like"I'm going to value some people opinions because they've shown me their worth discussing with, while other are not worth discussing with".

A lot of gamers get so worked up over the simplest of disagreements that I sometimes wonder if the reason people append that to their messages when they write to me is to try to come across as someone who doesn't. I don't really know.

I do think it's hilarious sometimes when people will say something like, "I like your site even though I disagreed with your D review."

Sometimes, even when you like a game, it should still be obvious why others might not (and vice versa).

What I was trying to explain to Harlequin before he deleted his posts and skipped town, is that the internet is a medium of communication, much like the telephone, the mail, smoke signals, or face-to-face conversation, and therefore telling someone "not to take it seriously" doesn't make sense. You might as well tell me not to take mankind seriously (which is actually pretty good advice, but another subject altogether).

And I don't want anyone to jump in here and tell me about Marshall McLuhan's "The medium is the message", because this is clearly semantically wrong, and therefore not to be taken literally.

He might have gotten offended by my last reply, but I wasn't really referring to him.

Also not in reference to Harlequin's use of the phrase, but when I've seen people say, "you take the internet too seriously" in the past, it was basically a meaningless fad reply (not unlike the "you hide behind internet anonymity!"). Ironically, those who would use that argument almost always seemed incapable of telling a joke post from a serious one and would get pissed off much more easily and often than others.

I just made an account and want to say this: Last year, EA released a game called "The Simpsons Game" which as part of its "charm" was openly mocking various videogame cliches. Like the game might make fun of shitty collect-a-thons but the problem was the game actually was a shitty collect-a-thon.

Virtually every review pointed this out. "you guys knew how lame this was, so why did you do it?" the reviewers gleefully wrote as they knocked points off the score.

So, my question is, did they forget this lesson with No More Heroes? Because every review I have read has seemed to say, "this game is shitty and broken in many ways, but that's okay, because it 'loves being a videogame' and is just 'making fun of the genre'".

These reviewers clearly know what the fuck is going on, because they picked up on it with Simpsons Game. So what happened between releases? Did they just not want to look unhip, like the dude that goes to pretends to like crappy movies and art galleries to impress chicks? Except in this case the "chicks" are the overly sensitive manchildren than post on Nintendo boards?

It wouldn't be a bad idea to link some of these reviews you are referring to, for the benefit of those who want to follow up on this.

Interestingly enough, rather than just porting the sequel, Grasshopper Manufacture will first port the original title to Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.

Perhaps now people will realize that the motion controls added nothing to the game, and that when you map the controls to buttons it becomes obvious how less complex this is than cutting edge 3D brawlers.

Will be interesting to see how the visuals will fare with the increased resolution. I am not optimistic. The character models were great but the backgrounds were very sparse, so I don't see how they would benefit from the increase if they are not remodeled/retextured/etc.

Doesn't look particularly good to me. Let's hope that at least they manage a sustained 60 frames per second with v-lock and something like 4×MSAA.

Notice the different ratings for the game, D for PlayStation 3 (same as the original Wii release) and Z for Xbox 360. Looks like Sony didn't like some stuff in it...

It took a couple years but looks like people are finally catching on to Suda's shtick.

The NHM series is the closest, but those are both pretty awful games if the humor doesn't grab you. My hope-o-meter for this one is flatlined.

I wonder if a horrible album can be considered to be a great album if the liner notes are really funny.

But see the thing is, which I sort of mentioned in my review but I guess didn't take enough care to properly elaborate and make perfectly clear, that the game IS NOT EVEN FUNNY. I played about 60% of it or so and it did not even manage to make me grin -- not once. The attempts at jokes are PATHETIC -- the game is GRATING if anything. Points should be DEDUCTED for the miserable attempts at humor, not added to the score.

As for the quotes you pulled from that Shmups thread, they are all of them pathetically idiotic.

"The NMH series is the CLOSEST to a good game", which means that he thinks NMH is BETTER than Killer 7 lol.

Ebbo wrote:Suda's games are definetely more about the strange atmosphere and humor than the actual gameplay. It's like all his games balance on a very thin line between clever inside jokes and simply bad game design.

The expression "to balance on a thin line" is supposed to be used when the two things you are comparing are mutually exclusive. In this case it is wholly inappropriate because there is absolutely no connection between quality of the humor and quality of game design, so the game is not balancing anything, let alone on a "very thin line".

njiska wrote:These are games you play for the world, not for the core mechanics.

And of course again the expression "core mechanics", which leaves open for doubt whether the "non-core" mechanics are good or not, for added bonus vagueness.

fagtards, lol. Two years, two decades -- what difference does it make? They are still morons.
