I've posted a guide to help players improve at 3rd Strike. It has video tutorials on how to do some very nifty tricks, like Negative Edge and Super Canceling.

I'm looking for feedback on what's there and how I can improve it. Also on suggestions on what I should add in the future.

I'm hoping to make this a very robust and detailed guide that's a great resource for SF3 players around the globe.

If you have any suggestions at all, feel free to email them to me (catalystx@gmail.com) or simply post it on this thread.

Good stuff, I remember seeing this video tutorial with Shenmue scenes ages ago.

Very impressive effort, video tutorials showing the actual input, both with diagram and someone using the Dreamcast arcade stick, are ace.

I haven't played SF3 much -- I don't think the home port was ever released here, but now that it's available in MAME I was able to play it a bit.

Would you say it is the 2D fighter with the most intricate game system?

I was originally a huge fan of the Street Fighter 2 series, and I bought an XBox and Street Fighter Anniversary Collection because of this reason. I thought having all of the SF2 games mixed into one would be awesome.

Unfortunately, the character balance is way off and there wasn't much competition online, so I slowly started to get into Street Fighter 3 Third Strike.

At first I thought SF3 was kind of boring and lame, but I kept playing it because there was competition. When I finally started to understand it and get into it, it became my favorite SF game to date.

It's simply awesome. Parrying and the overall game play are excellent. The big problem with the game is the learning curve. It's not easy to get into at first, but once you do you're rewarded with the deepest game play to date of any SF game. At least in my opinion.

Lastly, thanks to everyone for the compliments on the webpage, they're very nice to hear. I'll keep those updates coming.

Are you talking specifically about Hyper? IIX probably has the most balanced roster of any 2D fighting game.

I've completed the Makoto guide which has several instructional videos, combos, strategies and more.

If you're trying to learn how to play Makoto at a high level, this should help you out.

Let me know what you think.

Great stuff man. Keep up the good work. Hope you'll include Ken in the future, he's my favorite. Your strategy pages are a joy to read, because they are balanced between text and media.

Jedah, thanks for the kind words.

Just a heads up, I've completed the Ryu Character Guide for Street Fighter Third Strike.

http://www.eventhubs.com/guides/2008/may/09/ryu-street-fighter-3-third-strike-character-guide/

This guide has videos and instructions just like the other character guides I've posted. It should make learning Ryu an easier task.

If you have feedback, just leave it here.

King of Wolves '09 Tournament.

Some of the best 3rd Strike players in Japan got together for this one. Amazing expert level play with some great matches. It's 60 FPS, which looks really nice compared to the usual video quality found online (30 FPS).

http://www.gamefaqs.com/dreamcast/913699-street-fighter-iii-3rd-strike/faqs/8138

"System Direction" is an interesting feature that lets you change the basics of how the game plays. For example, you could disable high jumps, or make EX moves cost nothing to use, or even change the Leap Attack command back to d,d + P / K instead of MP + MK.

This FAQ lists all the different ways the mechanics can be altered with the "System Direction" feature in the DC, PS2, and XBOX ports. Remember all those people complaining about parrying? Well, you can do things like make the timing more strict, remove "guard parrying," or remove every type of parry altogether. You can turn the game into Street Fighter Zero by adding air blocking and access to all Super Arts, or turn it into Vampire by adding chain combos. You can remove a lot of features and have a visually superior Champion Edition-like game. If you go all out on the move cancelling you can end up with something resembling the Marvel series, as demonstrated in these combo videos:

Part 1: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VPQrtT5zuII
Part 2: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xXXMFgrHNMM

This is a fucking amazing feature and should be a standard feature for all fighting games on a console. Third Strike could still be a tournament standard, but for whatever reason organizers haven't had any tournaments with alterations like disabling parrying when it's as simple as moving a few spaces on the main menu. It's not like they're playing the CPS3 version, in most cases.
