Wikipedia says that Shatterhand was released several months AFTER Solbrain. And yet you call Solbrain "The Japanese adaptation of Shatterhand".

Stuff like this doesn't make any sense either:

Thematically, it isn't too dissimilar from Shatterhand, which is probably why it was chosen by publisher Angel for an easy translation to the Japanese audience.

Am I missing something?

I used the site Game Kommander for that information, which is far more reliable that Wikipedia.

From what I can tell it calls Shatterhand the original, and says Bandai made them update it to include one of their licenses for the Japanese release.
