I had the opportunity to play a few credits on v1.5 at Japan Expo Paris.

Oh my fucking god ! It was a blast !

It's gorgeous (on par with Galuda 2), it's fun as hell and it's huge explosions and huge patterns everywhere. if you play Bomb-style it's very forgiving and so makes for a perfect introduction to danmaku, if you play Power-style it's both demanding and very rewarding ... and manic.

Really, Bomb-style and Power-style are 2 different games. For me Power-style is the true game. For the first time Ikeda goes to the end of the no bombing logic in his games: you start with no bomb at all and you should try avoiding getting any.

If you want to judge from the videos, you should look at replays of Power-style (most of them are in Bomb-Style). Actually, the Power-Style superplayers are in Hyper mode all the time, but Power-style is all about Hyper and high rank anyway.

I discovered Dai-ou-jou later, so I am certainly biased to find in Dai-ou-jou a mere step stone toward a greater Daifukkatsu, like Donpachi was to DoDonpachi (all of them being games I love to play anyway). I wouldn't be that surprised to see long time Dai-ou-jou fans thinking differently.

I didn't play enough to judge whether Daifukkatsu is as deep as Dai-ou-jou or it is just fireworks. But it sure is attractive.

Very good review by EOJ here:

These are the kinds of reviews I want to see more of. I'd be proud to have his reviews featured on the frontpage, but the fuckface hates my guts and would never agree to it. :(

Yeah, I read it too. It's a good review.

I thought everybody interested read it already (it's pretty well referenced on google). Otherwise I would have linked it.

Do you still live in Lyon ? I think one of the guys from the french forum shmup.com has it there. Or at least it may be possible to play it at Wovou's gamecenter in Toulouse (you know each other if I remember well).

I was right, FolkN from shmup.com and living in Lyon has the game.

Actually, he is selling it right now for 950€ (full kit). In case you are interested:

I finally got to play around two weeks ago by accident.

I didn't have much time with it, but I was able to get to the third stage before my break ended and noticed a whole bunch of differences between this one and Daioujou. The auto bomb system is kind of an odd addition as well, but I guess there was some reason for it to be put in. For scoring maybe? I dunno ( and yeah I know I should just read about what it's for before mentioning it). I didn't mind the doll bosses. They were really well designed. Unfortunately, I don't know how long it'll stay at my arcade since it seems that the only shooter there that gets any form of attention is Espgaluda II (though I'm not really upset about that), and I don't have many chances to go to the arcade.

Black Label has been announced for release on January and will be published by Annex, since AMI has apparently closed.

AMI didn't actually close -- they reformed as a new company, Annex.

The reason this happened is because AMI was so pissed at SNK for their poor performance (with the KOFXII bombshell as the catalyst) that they didn't want to work with SNK any longer.

However, SNK was still under contract with AMI for more releases. AMI had no grounds on which to nullify the contract, so they shut down AMI and formed Annex to get SNK out of the picture. Annex should be handling distribution now for Cave, Examu, and Arc Systems while SNK is up the proverbial creek for a KOFXIII distributor.

That's a nice little story.

I'll give you a day to come up with your sources before banning you.

Anoop Gantayat wrote:Cave gave us a taste for portable bullet hell with the stunning Espgaluda II on iPhone/iPod touch back in April (see this story for screens and video in case you've forgotten).

The shooting masters are now readying their second iPhone/iPod touch app, revealed today to be DoDonPachi Daifukkatsu.

A debut trailer shared today doesn't really show anything, but you can stream it here:

According to the information page posted by Cave, the iPhone/iPod touch version of DoDonPachi Daifukkatsu will run on iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, iPod touch (3rd generation) and iPad (running as an iPhone app). These are the same devices as Espgaluda II.

Look for DoDonPachi Daifukkatsu at the App Store in Japanese and English this summer.
