I was thinking that, besides ganking Guilty Gear's Instant Block, Faultless Defense, Burst or Slash Back mechanics, maybe an acceptable middle ground between being able to parry pretty much everything all the time, and not have parry at all, would be to enable parrying when a character's health is low enough. When the health bar changes hue in 3rd Strike would be a reasonable amount.

That way it'd still be possible to execute one of the sweetest, most awesome comebacks ever.

Middle ground already exists. Melty Blood implements this (shield button and shield bunkers). Akatsuki implements this (B+C shield with an auto-counter). Other games already implement similar mechanics (alpha countering, guard cancel roll / front step). All of these are better, riskier and more intelligent than "tap forward, and sometimes hide this tap within a complex option select that will win you games".

Capcom is bringing five new fighters to Super Street Fighter IV: Arcade Edition 2012. Rolento, Elena, Hugo, and Poison, as well as a fifth unannounced fighter never before seen in a Street Fighter game, are poised for the update, which will get an official name reveal and trailer tomorrow.

Additionally, the update will include balance fixes and six new stages. It will cost $15 as an add-on to the current game or $40 as a direct digital download for the whole game. Consumers who purchase the full digital release of the update will receive all previous costume add-ons free of charge.

The update will launch on PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and PC. Release date details will be announced early next year.

Capcom Reveals Decapre as Ultra Street Fighter IV’s Fifth Roster Addition

It’s been a long time coming, but the day is finally here. Just before the Super Street Fighter IV: Arcade Edition ver. 2012 top sixteen bracket got underway at Final Round XVII, Capcom had a very special announcement for the crowd and everyone watching at home regarding Ultra Street Fighter IV.

Bison Doll Decapre will be joining the expanded cast in the next iteration of the company’s flagship fighter alongisde veterans Elena, Hugo, Poison, and Rolento. Like with previous announcements, a variety of videos were released to demonstrate what she’s capable of, including her very own trailer, her first combo video, and a commentary video with Capcom’s Peter “Combofiend” Rosas.

So, what do you think? Bear in mind that, according to IGN, Decapre is only about 85% done, so she will more than likely see additional tweaking between now and when Ultra is released in June. Feel free to share your thoughts in the comments below.
