NeoGAF uncovered box art and a banner for the game, which matches the dimensions of box art and banners used for Xbox Live Arcade games.

Additionally, the internet uncovered a Steam achievement for Strider.

So, that's XBLA and PC, then, set for a new downloadable Strider game. We expect it'll also come out on PlayStation Network.

Capcom is expected to announce a couple of new games at PAX East later this week. Will Strider be one of them? Capcom told Eurogamer this morning: “we don't comment on rumours or speculation."

Strider is a cult action platform game that began life in Japanese arcades in 1989. It was one of the company's earliest hits, pre-dating Street Fighter.

The game was ported to pretty much every console around at the time, and was quickly followed up by a sequel.

In February 2012 it emerged that Grin, the now defunct developer behind Bionic Commando, Wanted and Terminator: Salvation, worked on a Strider reboot and a Streets of Rage remake before it closed down in 2009.

Strider was to be a reboot similar to the PC, PS3 and Xbox 360 Bionic Commando reboot Grin made for Capcom.

Capcom – Today, at the World of Capcom panel at San Diego Comic-Con, Capcom Senior Producer Andrew Szymanski announced an all new Strider developed by Double Helix for PS4, Xbox One, PS3, Xbox 360 and PC!

Originally released in 1989, Strider remains one of Capcom’s most enduring franchises. The game tells the story of Hiryu, the youngest ever “Super A” ranked agent of an elite corps known as the Striders. Strider Hiryu receives orders to assassinate Grandmaster Meio, supreme dictator of Earth, who has plunged humanity into a dystopian dark age.

Since the original release, Strider Hiryu has battled through multiple sequels, and appears as a playable character in Capcom’s Marvel vs. Capcom series of fighting games, most recently Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3, released in 2011. Strider is a consistent fan favorite for Capcom, always ranked at the top of fan polls as a character in high demand to return in his own game.

Part of Strider’s enduring appeal has been blazing fast game, married with deep environment traversal options. For the new game, Double Helix and our partner team in Osaka, Japan, concentrated on an ultra-responsive control system, with incredibly satisfying combat options in every traversal context—standing, running, wall climbing, hanging, aerial and more.

New to the franchise is the massive interconnected world of Kazakh City which players can explore in any direction they choose. The traditional level structure has been replaced with a retraceable world and a deep ability upgrade system which enables Hiryu to build more power and abilities to penetrate ever deeper into the dystopian adventure.

Double Helix is thrilled to be working with some of the original Strider creative leaders from Capcom’s Osaka production offices to bring another fan favorite franchise back to life!

Strider Release Dates Confirmed and New Modes Revealed!

Capcom today announced that Strider will officially release across North America on February 18th as a $14.99 / €14.99 / £11.99 digital download title on PSN (PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3), with the XBLA (Xbox One, Xbox 360) and PC (Steam) versions out on February 19th. The original assassin returns soon, along with two all-new Challenge Modes and a slew of extras and bonus content that are sure to please Strider fans of all ages.

Revealed today, two new Challenge Modes have been added to the core Story Mode included in Strider. Beacon Run offers a “speed run” race style mode that gives players a white-knuckled experience, challenging them to hit consecutive checkpoints while slicing through enemies, in the shortest amount of time. Survival Mode tests player’s combat skills with a variety of different item and ability load outs, as waves of progressively difficult and diverse enemies converge on Strider Hiryu.

Global online leaderboards track both Challenge Modes, as well as Story Mode times and status results. Whether competing against the world’s best speed runners or going head-to-head against friends, players can track their stats via the Strider leaderboards, which introduce an addictive layer of depth and replayability.

Furthermore, players can unlock new sets of costumes by uncovering the vestiges of Striders fallen in battle against Grand Master Meio’s evil empire. Unlock all costumes to have access to a full array of customization options, allowing players to create their own unique and playable Strider character.

About Strider

Strider features the same franchise hallmarks of fluid, lightning quick side scrolling combat and free-flowing traversal through the expansive interconnected metropolis of Kazakh City. Perform breakneck acrobatic jumps and mid-air flips while slicing through Strider’s varied enemy types with Hiryu’s indestructible ‘Cypher’, a plasma charged weapon that can take on a number of properties. Alternatively, use the climb sickle to gain the high ground, and hit enemies with a surprise Kunai attack or call on support companions for some extra muscle when the going gets tough. Strider is developed by Double Helix Games, in conjunction with Capcom.
