PF2 Pathfinder Adventure Path: Outlaws of Alkenstar

Unread postby icycalm » 17 Sep 2021 05:59

This new AP was revealed three weeks ago. It's a three-parter and takes players from level 1 to 10. It's located in the smallish region of Alkenstar, which is bordering on the Geb region on which the just-announced undead AP Blood Lords [ > ] will be taking place. It's a Western-themed steampunk-type region with outlaws and saloons and shit. Guns too, it seems like.

I won't link you to Paizo's site as the adventure description is full of spoilers. I'll just give you the intriguing one-line description I'll put on the campaign selection map:

Paizo wrote:A ragtag band of gunslinging outlaws get their hands dirty in the greasy alleyways and whisky-soaked saloons of Alkenstar, the City of Smog, to get revenge on the mogul who destroyed them.

We only have this low-res image of the cover of the first adventure for now:

It usually isn't even the final cover, just a mock-up. I'll put it on the map anyway along with the Blood Lords campaign, probably on Saturday if they release at least one image for the latter. Can't wait to add two more dots on the map!

The amazing thing about the Blood Lords and Outlaws of Alkenstar campaigns is that they take place right next to each other, exactly like Hell's Rebels and Hell's Vengeance in First Edition, so I can set those up as Versus Quests as well. Problem is Alkenstar is 1-10 while Blood Lords is 1-20, but one way to deal with this would be to set the showdown at around level 10.

And now I have to find theme tracks for them!

God I love Pathfinder. This shit is SO much more exciting than what Wizards puts out for D&D. Undead characters vs. steampunk characters? I mean really?

And of course they're releasing all sorts of books to tie into these adventures, like "Guns & Gears" for the steampunk one:

And "Book of the Dead" for the undead one:

Shisumo wrote:It's more a randomly-no-magic zone. Like, for instance, in Alkenstar itself, one side of the river has magic and the other side doesn't.

CorvusMask wrote:Okay yeah, best thing about 3 part aps is that paizo is more willing to set them in niche locations (either ones where its hard to figure out level 1-20 plot or ones players might not want to be that long in depending on party), so this being set in Alkenstar is enough to set aside my upset at this not being another 11-20 :'D

Woo for Alkenstar content finally! :3

Was waiting for someone else to say it first! Though /this/ does let me play a Cleric of Brigh as the well-meaning soul of a band of outlaws.

Looking forward to this. I'll look it over once it's out and let you know if you can read it. I also can't wait for the final cover so I can update the overworld with it.

Paizo wrote:If you’re reading this Player’s Guide, it means you and your friends have decided to play in the Outlaws of Alkenstar Adventure Path. In this campaign for Pathfinder Second Edition, you’ll create a 1st-level character and take on the role of a criminal outlaw in a steam-powered metropolis. To get revenge on the villains who ruined you, you’ll need to defeat clockwork creatures, collect fantastic firearms, and navigate industrial dungeons, magical wilds, and myriad social spheres. If this sounds exciting, you’ve found the right Adventure Path!

14 pages, I checked them, no spoilers. Very cool map of Alkenstar inside too. Check it out if you want.

This is what the city looks like, from previous published materials:

I expect to see a lot more art like this in the books as they release over the next three months.
