This just dropped and it's getting pretty good feedback which I adduce below. Keep in mind that all Alien game threads will eventually be moved into the Battlegrounds forum because the Alien universe is now a part of my Battlegrounds metaverse. Someone has published a huge timeline of all Alien movies, novels, comics, games, etc., and that's what Andrew Gaska is using to stitch together his Alien RPG world, so all that stuff will be unlocked in Battlegrounds eventually, so that for example our Aliens: Colonial Marines stream from 2019 with recoil, dan, Jameson and me [ > ] will be embedded on the overworld at the correct time and location.

And the same goes for this game. If anyone manages to complete the game at a high difficulty and produce a good-quality stream of it, it's going on the overworld eventually. Same goes for the 3P Aliens: Fireteam Elite that recoil, shubn and I will be playing soon. Gaska has actually woven details even from the games into his world. I'll be talking about all this at length soon in my upcoming "Alien Season 1" thread in the Battlegrounds forum.

Keep in mind this is real-time, so probably many of the comparisons to XCOM are poorly considered. The one guy who compares it to Red Solstice instead has the right idea, and lo and behold, he's also given the longest and most in-depth review. Probably also the best. If you can't tell the difference between turn-based and real-time, you probably won't make a good game critic.

Very good game indeed and I would definitely advise it if you're into the X-Com style of games, or simple just love Aliens, however there are some issues that need addressing:

1 - Annoying commentary by the team every time you leave them standing around for a 10 seconds or more, telling you they need to move etc.

2 - Annoying repetitive voices when you tell them to move, like "Double time!" and so on. Can get very grating!

3 - In some circumstances your team will venture through a door as soon as it's opened despite you, as a player, NEVER wanting them to do so.

4 - Cheesy incidental scenes that are not dramatic or funny... or even needed.

5 - Map stealing. The game seizes your control of the map when it wants you to do something.

6 - HORRENDOUS models and animation for the cutscenes. Smacks of 90s models/animation.

Slowly and carefully moving through a level with your squad and fighting off waves of xenos can be extremely immersive and feel like it was taken straight from the 2nd film. However, there are multiple problems that plague this game that would need to be fixed before I could give this game a thumbs up:

- Double time! Come on Team! Why are we shouting when we are actively trying to remain undetected?
- The ability to give your squad individual orders. Moving your squad as a single unit works majority of the time but it quickly breaks down during engagements or when searching for items where giving individual orders would feel much more organic and add more depth.
- the ability to ping/pin locations on the map
- a flashlight toggle would also be extremely appreciated. I hate having to hold down my left mouse button down constantly
- a compass
-In general the movement and controls just feel off and I can't pin it down to just a single reason as to why that is. Playing the game just feels awkward. It feels almost like your playing a bad PC port at times.

Prologue 4/10
Actual Game 8/10

I was NOT disappointed. Having just completed the first mission, the pacing, atmosphere and sound design, and overall play-ability were great. I had not encountered any significant bugs while playing on Windows 10.

It's an absolute blast being able to customize your marines, and having them lose limbs only to be replaced by robot parts, or losing them in action and then going back to collect their dog tags. Being able to go in and out of the deployment area was an awesome idea, and the persistent

The game could certainly use more polish, but as far as modern gaming goes this title launched in an actual fully playable state without game breaking bugs. I'm excited to see what future updates and DLC bring to this game, and even more excited to play through the full story.

The models are somehow both good and stylized but also terrible and just kind of odd looking. It's going for a sublte yet not-so-subtle graphic novel style approach to its art which is very apparent in the face of characters, but nowhere else, so some things look natural and good, and other things just stand out a little oddly.

Lots of weird texture blending and errors that need to be patched out. The APC tread marks dont match terrain height and just float noticeably above the terrain. There's a lot of weird textures in early cutscenes, some canned animations looks kind of lazy which others are decent. Lots of clipping and flexing in soldier armor where there shouldn't be but surprisingly no Z fighting to be seen yet.

The animation and voice acting range from great to cringe and the callouts needs to be played far less frequently.

It's a hard game and will sell itself as such but a lot of the difficulty feels artificial and stems from the poor controls and lack of available strategy or fine control of characters that other similar games like Red Solstice 2 offer. Units cant be positioned individually to maximize strategy and move as a group and will place themselves in weird or obnoxious positions.

There are a few really neat mechanics like the rest and stress system that help it stand out from other RTTs at least.

It's worth the 40 dollars (barely) so far and will probably only get better as time goes on but there's a fair bit of "meh" in the mix with all the good stuff. Though this is an early review with little game time.

6/10 with potential to grow. Just because it's a brand name doesn't mean its automatically quality and a lot of reviews will just be Franchise Fan Boys who have never played an RTT defending it to their deaths, though it is (so far) a good game with potential to grow, given polish and some more love.

The creators have been brave enough to try new things and do it their way, but have remained true to the lore of the original Aliens movies plus some comic/book references.

This really is an immersive and awesome game that helps capture the feeling of the movies from a whole new perspective!
