Huge changes are coming to salvaging with 4.3.2 in preparation for hooking up the system to crafting and base-building. You'll need to process the salvaged material now and the kind of material you get will depend on the kind of vehicle you're salvaging. More details here:

Rust, Satisfactory and so on are about to be blown the fuck out. They have nothing like this, not to mention entire monthly FPS and space-based events on top of it.
