Cloud Imperium Games wrote:This white-dwarf-centered system may seem outwardly cold, but its unique spectral anomalies and convenient hauling hubs make it well worth the visit (as long as you’re not expecting a handshake and a cup of cocoa). Discover the once vibrant Fortune’s Cross station, explore the treacherous tunnels of The Coil, and feel the magnetic pull of the system’s glorious auroras. Before you visit, be sure to download your very own map with all the information you’ll need to keep safe and keep flying.

The Odin system where "most" of Squadron 42 takes place has been unveiled. Note: it's an 8K image.

I like the style of the space stations. Very different from Stanton's and Pyro's. Lots of cool lore and unique locations. Can't wait to see more.

That's a lot of assets never seen in the persistent universe.

For example I found this "2025 LA12" in the Kessle Highway location: https://imgur.com/a/e4M0A8k Might be nothing, but I'm wondering if CIG is teasing something related to Squadron 42 happening in LA this year (Game Awards trailer? idk).

kildal wrote:I guess they could start with, "10 years ago, we stood on this stage" haha. I've been excited for them to potentially do an announcement at TGA, but seeing this makes me feel it could be quite awkward.

If they do it, I hope they start with a banger trailer first at least and then come on stage for a few humble words.

RemindMe! 1 year

Starimo-galactic wrote:Well Nicou did say this is an 'early map' so definitely not definitive.

djsnoopmike wrote:Seems like the little yellow symbols are hints that something is there to be found, there's even faint coordinates seemingly pointing to the middle of nowhere.

SharpEdgeSoda wrote:I love that it's only in one system.

It's much more interesting to me to have a huge galaxy, but tell a big story about a small part of it.

It makes the world feel bigger. Not everything has to be an adventure that goes from one end of the world (or galaxy) to the other.

Metaverse gaming versus programmer invisible wall square box Potemkin gaming.

Jockcop wrote:There are some rumours from people that have read the script that not all of the game takes place in this system but we will see.

We actually have a lot more content on Odin besides the map they recently released: the last two Squadron 42 trailers show off a ton of footage of many areas of the system, so I post them here for reference, with last year's trailer at the top (2024), and the year's before below (2023). Note that the top video shows off the entire first mission and runs 1 hour 16 minutes, almost all of which is in space, and not Odin space either (I think it's Vega), and it's only the last couple of minutes that show off Odin, so I've timestamped the link to start exactly there.

It looks like a great system and I especially like the fully fleshed out rivers with boats and shit. Looking forward to a transport spaceship that drops off boats that will surely come when Odin is added to the Persistent Universe.

On the subject of Odin's addition, this is how we'll handle it in terms of Cult Strategy: The first person to stream and complete the game in full detail at the hardest difficulty will get the system. The stream must be at least 1080p. If 4K streams are technically feasible at full detail, then I might set the minimum at 4K. We'll have to test to see what's possible.

Since there will be some branching choices from what I've heard, plus you'll have to design your character, the canon character and choices and videos added to the Battlegrounds multiverse will be the ones made by the winner of this contest. And if it's the same character that goes on to the sequels, the winner also gets the sequels, plus all systems featured in them. If the sequels have different protagonists then we run the contest once per sequel.
