This isn't a tactics game. It's a full CRPG by Owlcat, their next game after Wrath of the Righteous. Read this thread for my earlier comments and speculation on Owlcat's future:
Owlcat's next Pathfinder game

So they DID do sci-fi, as I had imagined they might, just not Starfinder. It makes sense financially I suppose since 40K has way more name recognition than Starfinder, even if it's way inferior. It's way older after all, for one thing (Starfinder only launched in mid-2017).
This will apparently be the FIRST CRPG in the 40K universe. It makes sense that there haven't been any others, since 40K is a wargame not an RPG. Which means... that the system will be concocted hastily by some programmer at Owlcat, which means it will suck, guaranteed, and certainly compared to Starfinder lol. Expect the adventure to suck too since unlike the Pathfinder games they won't be adapting a published adventure or campaign, since there aren't any, and it'll again be some halfwit programmer who'll hastily concoct a halfassed adventure on his own (compared to the dozens of people that work on each Paizo campaign). Business as usual in other words for the genre, exactly what Larian and others have been doing for decades, with only a handful of exceptions.

I speculate that the 40K license was way cheaper than Starfinder, since every "indie" moron and his retarded kitten can get a 40K license nowadays. Much less work too than adapting the super-detailed Paizo system and campaigns. And the revenue will definitely be way higher than if they'd gone with the, even less known than Pathfinder, Starfinder system.
Still it'll be something to play if you're starved for CRPGs I suppose. Probably better than the Wasteland games (though at least the second of those had co-op...)
And all hope isn't lost about another Pathfinder adaptation, since Owlcat now says they have grown their studio to be able to work on multiple projects simultaneously.

For now, they're just pumping out DLCs for WotR, but they could well switch to a new campaign once those are done. And Paizo recently saying that Owlcat ISN'T working on a Starfinder game [ > ] I would take as a sign that they may be working on a Pathfinder game, since if they weren't working on Paizo stuff at all, Paizo probably wouldn't have ventured any news on wtf Owlcat is doing. Just speculation on my part, of course, but it sounds plausible to me.
It's a huge disappointment any way you cut it, we could be getting Skull & Shackles or Horizons of the Vast now instead of this stupid shit (Iron Gods would be even better as I mention in my earlier-linked thread since it's the campaign that ties together Pathfinder and Starfinder, an utterly unique proposition that covers all angles and should attract an outsize playerbase for the genre), but I don't care either way since I wouldn't play even them if they were making them lol. I am only reporting on this stuff out of years-long habit, and will probably altogether stop once my Battlegrounds is in full swing. Maybe someone else who actually plays this stuff will pick up the slack at some point. Otherwise Insomnia will probably just stop covering them lol. Or who knows, maybe the habit will be too strong to kick and I'll be posting about all these games I won't be playing all the way to my grave lol. We'll see.

The CG seen in the trailer at the bottom is a bit cheap and ill-fitting to the in-game art direction, kind of like how much of WotR's was, but the in-game art looks great, some of it maybe even better than in the Pathfinder games.

No Steam page yet but you can already preorder on the official site linked above, and that will give you Early Access fairly soon apparently: https://roguetrader.owlcat.games/preorder/en/faq
