Profession: Data Running

There's some speculation that data-running is coming. In a recent Monthly Report they mentioned that a new profession is about to arrive, and recently the Drake Herald which is a data-runner received an update of some "deployable flaps": https://www.reddit.com/r/starcitizen/co ... hhh/runner

Shout-out to u/alfowick for pointing out the array works now! I noticed the button no longer vanished right at the start of 4.3.1 PTU but it wasn't deployable at the time.

I really hope they come up with a viable and fun game loop for that, but the silence makes me lose hope.

Nothing crazy, just some small, form-fitting radiators that would really compliment the semi-realistic vibe of the game, and just look cool as hell.

That was two weeks ago, then today more discussion on the subject arose in the Nyx event thread: https://www.reddit.com/r/starcitizen/co ... nt/nidptvu

Hope we find out on Saturday!

I've heard some speculation that the servers in the Herald and MSR would essentially be refineries (Expanse) but for data. You would encrypt or decrypt the data. Now if that would be "gameplay loop" I think it would be pretty boring because: what would you encrypt/decrypt? Maybe that mechanic would actually only work with missions for the first time but eventually you would need to encrypt/decrypt in-game information like: waypoints we could place in the game (Starmap), the mini map for FPS exploring (fog-of-war) and transient jump points. Add to that scanning which I think would be a prerequisite. On top of that maybe it could be possible we hack these chips in specific terminals so that way not only people owning these two ships could get access to the info, but every time you hack a chip you would have to go through the mini-game.

I don't think we have either of these ships in our fleet, but they're easy enough to acquire in-game if no one feels like ca$hbuying them. And btw it will be the upcoming Cult Technician that gets them.

It seems like a done deal at this point that we're getting data-running T0 next month.

RSI Hermes

There's been recent speculation that an Apollo variant is coming either at CitCon or IAE called the Hermes. The consensus seems to be that it is cargo, but Hermes is the messenger god. So it seems that CIG is prepping to fill out the data-running profession with the Herald (small), Mercury Star Runner (medium) and Hermes (large).

Will the upcoming data missions take advantage of a large data-runner? They should if CIG has any sense, but it will piss off poorfags that it won't be buyable in-game for months. As for us, even if no one outright ca$hbuys it, we own so many ships in that range that someone will spend a $20 to CCU to it.

Can't wait for Saturday and really looking forward to get a new profession to give to the Cult Technician.
