Dark Ages. But he has guns. And it's in hell. Which looks exactly like the previous games. So where do the Dark Ages come in?

There's no logic to anything because the entire concept and playerbase are stupid anyway, so why bother.
This game was never particularly good, not even in its very first, single-level iteration (see Not Art: Doom (1993)). But at least there was mechanical innovation there. The new ones have nothing. The action and weapons look fun, but the devs can't be bothered to build a cool theme and world and story to the game. Next they'll do DOOM THE VICTORIAN WARS or DOOM CHINA because no one cares.
