Creation & Destruction Never Felt This Good!
I reviewed the original on Patreon like half a decade ago. Gave it 3/5 and I stand by that verdict. The engineering mechanics are fantastic. But everything else is bad, so it's basically an engineering Minecraft. It has no PVE to speak of, no PVP either since its servers can only handle 16 players. And while it's not quite Minecraft levels of ugly, it is ugly. So it's not really a game since there's not much more you can do than build things for no reason. At least Satisfactory looks great so you get that... satisfaction. That's why I've played that a bit more, and may play it still more in the future. But I can't play Space Engineers.
Does the sequel change anything? Not from that trailer. It's just a touch less ugly, that is all. Still shows no enemies. Still no more than 4-5 players. Still no goals of any kind.
Yeah the physics look cool. But the building blocks are ugly so whatever you will make will be ugly.
I just can't muster any enthusiasm for this, and certainly not with Star Citizen base-building just around the corner, with bases that will look EVEN BETTER than Satisfactory's, not to mention that every real-time genre will feed into them and flow out of them.
So, this game, whatever. If you enjoy building things more than playing games, you'll have fun with it, I am sure. So from the perspective of game criticism it's still a 3/5 (unless they unveil proper PVE and/or PVP on a roadmap or something; it is an alpha after all).
