Mission: Claim XenoThreat

Unread postby icycalm » 31 Jan 2025 02:56

Pyro version of In the Wake of Disaster was apparently huge fun and huge profits, but CIG just pulled it with 4.0.1. But there may still be lower-level versions of it available, plus apparently you can just buy drugs in Pyro shops and sell them in Stanton! So I made this thread first to draw attention to this mission in case it comes back, and also to direct us towards looking into the remaining means of Pyro-Stanton drug smuggling. Watch the video and read below for tips and inspiration.

@timberland6988 wrote:Just finished one. Ended up with about 45 SCU of eggs and roughly 400 SCU of SLAM.

Pyro V salvage fields was some of the best... was the best gameplay I've had in 7 years in this game. And it seems it's gone with 4.0.1.

Did it pay too much? Maybe. They could 1/2 it for all I care, but the purposeful PvP gameplay was just great. Hijacking people's ships. Slinging cargo *FAST*. Responding to pirate attacks on yourself. It was tense out there.

It felt like something actually challenging and rewarding and a reason to actually PvP in the PU.

BeneficialOffer4580 wrote:No. Say it ain't so. Was a fun PvEvP game loop with no idea what could happen. You could pirate or you could be pirated or it could be as calm as a dark night.

Shit it even had "true consensual" PvP that many traders complain about.

It was the best game loop in years hands down..... fuuuuuuuuu

Hardline989 wrote:I know! The high-risk high-reward PVP hotspots those 200k salvage missions created were some of the most fun my group had with 4.0. They've done similar removals in the past.

-When physicalized cargo was introduced, legal VHRTs and ERTs had tons of drugs in cargo.
They patched it and removed drugs from legal bounty missions.

-When salvage was first introduced, salvaged ships had tons of drugs in cargo.
They patched and removed drugs from salvage missions.

I think the Vaughn missions (illegal bounties) in Stanton still spawn tons of drugs, but haven't tested 4.0.1 yet.

RunsaberSR wrote:Man...

We'd watch people from 1km out in a Razor. Slide up, self-destruct while scooting away in their ship.

We run a Cat/Andro pair and tried our best to lock down a field and cover/load under fire.

We even got to do the whole real board and take over Polaris thing. And they were loaded with 32 SCUs. We made out like literal bandits after firefights in their corridors.

Just... ugh.

8 asteroid location around Pyro V. Some poor sap or opportunist would pay 200k to spawn 17 ships, some of which were cargo ships full of SLAM and eggs. Easily 1 mil of drugs or more. Normally no one wants to pay 200k so you just trawled all 8 locations and ran into all sorts of trouble stealing and flying off with the drug ships or people's ships or getting whacked yourself. Great solo fun, great team fun, it literally had everything and was the funnest game loop I've seen in this game.

What other opportunities in Pyro are there to smuggle or pirate drugs or high-value commodities?

Imo CIG kinda jumped the gun removing the mission entirely, it brought so much emergent gameplay and player interaction. I understand it was "too much money" but why not just adjust the loot tables/spawn rates?

Aside from attempting to run drugs from purchase points on-planet I don't foresee that type of gameplay in Pyro happening much anymore.

mndfreeze wrote:Really they should have left it and just halved the cost and reward. I also liked the thrill of wondering if some shipless cockroach was hiding in a wrecked Reclaimer full of SLAM.

TheDailyGrease wrote:Some fantastic moments were had.

RunsaberSR wrote:This is what we were doing for a while, even before the videos and it was so fun.

Honestly, just reduce the amount of drugs that spawn or something. I dunno.

But now I see what the game can do and pretty much every other gameplay loop is pretty braindead tedium with no risk.

TheDailyGrease wrote:I'm right there with ya man, also good seeing you outside the verse :D

More-Ad-4503 wrote:I still see everything but 300k missions?

TheDailyGrease wrote:Yeah the big risk missions with drugs are gone pretty much.

Simbakim wrote:There are more drugs around, just gotta look for it.

TheDailyGrease wrote:WHERE, tell me? (I HAVE A GUN)

BeneficialOffer4580 wrote:He means the Pyro V 200k salvage missions that basically were PvP. Yes we know Pyro sells drugs at shops.

electronic_bard wrote:Yeah but nothing near 8-12 ships with 150+ SCU of weevil eggs and SLAM all in one convenient spot with good chances of PVP.

Plumb-ber wrote:Yeah. I am super disappointed this contract is gone. Not gonna lie. I'm taking a bit of a break because of it.

Fatal-Atom wrote:RIP was having fun sneaking onto people's ships while they were loading SLAM and eggs.

TheDailyGrease wrote:I'm right there with ya brother, what's your plan now?

Fatal-Atom wrote:Probably Vaugh missions, it's the only thing that really pays out big now.

TheDailyGrease wrote:Is there any way to catch someone in the act of those though? I thought they usually take you to a random spot in the Yela belt.

Fatal-Atom wrote:Yeah can't really steal people's unless you camp Grim HEX but at least Vaughn missions are free and normally always spawn where the XenoThreat missions were 50/50 on spawning, that could also be why they removed them since they were kinda just eating people's money half the time, hopefully they add them back.
