Notas:

I agree wholeheartedly. That was the first thing that struck me. It is ridiculous to not use the screen's entire vertical length. The only way I could justify it is if they are planning to convert the game to the arcades, or the Wii, or to the Dreamcast lol.

Also, the anime art looks cheap and trashy. Apart from that it looks okay -- more promising anyway than most other cheap straight-to-console shooters of late.

Notes:

- Keep in mind that among 5pb's lines is Masaki Sakari, a former member of Data East, as we pointed here: [ > ].

- Famitsu Dot Com tells (and shows) us that it'll be filled with hidden bonus chances, in the likeness of the eighties' classics (they may be thinking about Star Force, I guess).

- The active area takes up the same proportions as the conversions of the vertical monitor games (it doesn't even fill the screen's height), which seems to imply that they'll make the most of 480×640. The only suspicious thing is the markers' location. It's clear that they've intended to do a home arcade, in any case; an initiative to applaud.

Kiken wrote:The major thing I'd like to see them address is to actually make the bullet souls do something.. anything... Contribute to a multiplier or hyper gauge, give an end stage bonus or help to trigger special hidden bonuses in stage. Wall to wall bullet cancelling is fun and all, but at least give some sort of incentive to doing it (outside of it acting like a glorified bomb).

No more details available at the moment.

Steam Teaser: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X-WNSPLy2kw

I like that they call it a "shooter" and not a "shmup", like the Cave trailers. The latter make the games sound cheap.

Steam wrote:About This Game
A brand-new recipe for the shooting genre which rewards survival through aggressive play. Blending classic shooting game design with a solid dash of modern day bullet hell, this soul food dish has it all! Destroy enemies at close quarters to build your multiplier, and see their bullets rendered harmless. Scour the stages for secret bonuses to push your score to even greater heights.
Bringing even more heat are Resonator: the moniker of aural wizards Kenji 'Itoken' Ito and Kohta Takahashi, setting fire to your speakers with their tunes. Last but not least, Akio Watanabe lends his skills to the scene, bringing forth some fresh character designs.

Bullet Soul arrives on Steam at last!
Features here:

4 different modes, including both DLC from the Xbox 360 original
3 different ships, and a hidden second loop, complete with true last boss on Normal Mode
Practice and perfect your score stage by stage in Bancho Mode
Race the clock and the world's best scores in Caravan Mode
A 4th ship and further refined gameplay in Version B
Leaderboards divided by mode & ship with friend filters
Includes tate/vertical screen mode with X/Y scaling and smoothing
