Cutlass Black Best in Show 2950 Edition

Postby shubn » 12 Jan 2025 20:13

I had been wanting it for a while, but had pretty much given up on finding one at a price I was willing to pay. I randomly checked The Impound yesterday, and they had it for $250, so I jumped on it. As I'm writing this, there's a single one left for $300: https://theimpound.com/products/cutlass ... 8802382077

Unlike the BIS 2949 ships, this one is a standard Cutlass Black. The paint is separate.

Sea Serpent: Cool blues and black combine for this subdued Idris Sea Serpent livery.

Triton Camo: Conceal the shape of the Idris with the blue camo pattern of the Triton Camo livery.

Sharktooth livery: Charge into battle in stylish and dramatic fashion with the Sharktooth livery. It gives the Idris a distinct look using beige and black for a disruptive coloration pattern that helps break up the silhouette of the ship.

Marauder: Designed for the Idris-K aftermarket kit, the Marauder livery is primarily black with subtle red highlights.

Beachhead: Proclaim your presence with the Beachhead livery for the Idris. It uses various shades of beige and brown for a look that stands out against the dark of space.

Commando Camo: The Commando Camo livery brings a classic green and tan camo look to the Idris.

Nightbreak: Discreetly soar through the night sky in the Idris with the Nightbreak livery, which is primarily black with red highlights.

I am a bit miffed that there are blue and green paints for both the Idris and the Polaris, but red only for the Idris. Anyway, I am sure they'll make a red Polaris too at some point.

So Adjudicator's color would be the Nightbreak: https://www.reddit.com/r/starcitizen/co ... nt/ms8r4wn

The Marauder is also said to have red highlights, but they're so muted you can barely see them, and anyway that paint seems to be tied to the after market kit.

I really don't see the red at all here: https://www.reddit.com/r/starcitizen/co ... nt/msb00v6

As for the Sharktooth, we'll use it for piracy! So if Adjudicator joins shubn's pirate operations in Stanton, or goes to Pyro to reinforce recoil, he can switch to the Sharktooth: https://www.reddit.com/r/starcitizen/co ... nt/ms8r3du

And finally, lots of people are excited about this one (not sure what it's called): https://www.reddit.com/r/starcitizen/co ... nt/ms8r2ys

We can use this during joint org war operations, if multiple Commanders are involved in the operation. Basically all the camo stuff will come out then. I am even thinking of removing camo colors from the Commanders, e.g. olive camo from ysignal, to reserve them for combined military ops, so that the Commanders only retain the bright red, blue, green colors etc.

2025 Pirate Paints

Pirate Paint Collection $117.19
https://robertsspaceindustries.com/en/p ... Collection

The new pirate paint megapack includes the 4 new paints, which are the excellent Skullcrusher style for the Ursa, Avenger, Corsair and Asgard. These are very useful vehicles for pirate ops. Very happy to see them. I am especially stoked to see a ground vehicle with a skull paint that screams pirate as the only ones we've had available up till now were generic silver or black ones. So all I did was melt last year's megapack and add about $10 worth of credit, and I have everything again. It's a huge discount if you buy the pack, like 35%. You are getting 1/3rd of the paints for free, and every year you melt the old and buy the new, and the savings grow.

For those looking to spend less, there is also an 8-pack that contains just the Skullcrusher paints for less than half of the complete pack's price. That's a great deal for those looking to get into piracy without going all out with the cash. Plus it includes the 4 cool pirate containers that I will talk about in a moment in a new Exclusive Furniture thread.

Skullcrusher - 8 Paint Pack $59.29
https://robertsspaceindustries.com/en/p ... Paint-Pack

It's a terrific-looking fleet that covers most basic needs. recoil bought this pack even though he already had last year's megapack, which gives him the 4 new paints plus second copies of the original 4 Skullcrusher paints (M50, Mantis, Vulture, Scorpius). This allows him to paint both Scorpiuses simultaneously while being able to give out the rest to other Pyro players. That said, now that he has the free pirate containers from the treasure hunt, he could melt this pack and also last year's megapack and then buy the new megapack thus saving about $40. And if he wants a second set of pirate containers he can just buy the $30 container pack (that I will link in the new Exclusive Furniture thread in a moment). Two sets of containers certainly would look better than just one, and you'd expect our Pyro HQ at Ruin station to have them. I was planning to give him mine from the treasure hunt, but I kinda want to set up a small pirate hangar for myself somewhere, so I'll keep them. In any case, one set is fine and I am sure we'll have opportunities to buy more in the years to come. Maybe we'll even be able to craft them at 1.0.

So Pirate Week ends today, so make your purchases asap if you have any left. After that you can still buy everything from the grey market for a markup until next year.

However, you can still get into piracy with us without spending anything. The Buccaneer is our pirate fighter and requires no paint, and the Cutter works well with the Noble paint you can buy on the store year-round. That's really all you need for dogfighting and getting around, and the rest can be supplied by your Pirate Commander/SupCom plus people like me who hoard paints.

A final note about the 400i Meridian that I think I've mentioned before, and which isn't included in any pack or megapack. I used to think, along with other low-information players, that this was an oversight on CIG's part. Turns out this paint was only sold during the Original Concept phase, so they can't put it in a pack even if they want to because the original backers who bought the jpeg at the time would be pissed. You can still get it from the grey market for a pretty reasonable $40, and shubn, recoil and I have it.

400i - Meridian Paint $39.99
https://theimpound.com/products/400i-meridian-paint

I currently have it assigned to the Pirate Captain as his luxury ship so it's not needed for pirate ops. It's a luxury, so if you feel like having it, grab the paint before it gets even more expensive.

MPUV Series Nightbreak

Postby icycalm » 07 Nov 2025 02:55

Argo MPUV Series – Flight Blades Kit
https://theimpound.com/products/argo-mp ... blades-kit

Image

Bought this for $15 from the Impound (Star Hangar had it for $20). We'll need it for Saturday because recoil wants to use the MPUV Tractor for pirate ops.

I know it's meant to be primarily a flight blades kit, but you can get these in the game now. What you can't get is the awesome Nightbreak paint that works on all the MPUVs (and note that some of their other paints don't work on all of them). So keep reporting these kit purchases here. If the flight blades become important/exclusive in the future, I'll make a Flight Blades thread. For the time being, it's only the Nightbreak paints that are hard to get, and awesome.

I plan a big Cult Spec post about the Nightbreak paints. It'll shake up a lot of things because many cool vehicles have it. Coming soon.

I bought the Scorpius Weapon Kit (RSI Lesath Missile Turret), Avenger Series Flight Blades Kit, Gladius Flight Blades Kit, and Arrow Flight Blades Kit when they first came out, each of which contains the Nightbreak paint for the ship.

The rules for how you acquire the BIS paints have subtly changed this year. I can't say I understand all of it, but what I do understand is that some people seem to think that if you don't already own or upgrade to all the 4 ships within the next few hours, you won't be able to gain the paints separately from the ships if you upgrade later.

Why would you want to gain the paints as separate items? Because you can then melt the ships without losing the paints.

So I went ahead and finished all my upgrades well ahead of time [ > ], and advise everyone else who's interested in these paints to do the same. In my reading of the guidelines below, this isn't necessary and you still have a couple of days to do it. But why risk it if you can just take a few moments to do it now?

As for the paints themselves... They seem like yellow-orange to me. Which means we don't really need them right now, but we will when/if we ever get a yellow-orange Commander. So now we have one set of them, and I think shubn will also get at least some of them, and ysignal has at least a Polaris and Asgard, so overall we should end up with a nice stack of them to place in the service of a future yellow-orange Commander.

Freyja Vanadis @Freyja-CIG wrote:All four ships that made it into the semi-finals of the recent Ship Showdown 2955 event (RSI Polaris, Anvil Asgard, RSI Zeus Mk II ES, Anvil Gladiator) will receive the limited-edition Best in Show livery as well as their in-game manufacturer poster. These are available to all players with these ships in their hangars. Additionally, the Polaris will receive a collectible in-game championship pennant to commemorate the glory of being this year's Ship Showdown champion.

If you already have one of these ships, you'll receive the IAE-exclusive paint (and extra items) following the last day of the event at no cost. To be eligible to receive the paints, the specific Best in Show ships, and not variants, need to be in your web-hangar at the end of IAE (having them in your Buyback List won't grant you the Best in Show paints). If you melt any of the ships before receiving the associated paints, then you will no longer be eligible.

Everyone pledging for a Best in Show (BIS) ship during the IAE will receive the paint and items, too. If you don't already have the ship, the vehicles will be bundled with the prizes during the Best in Show days following the 29th of November. Please note that these Best in Show Edition bundles already contain the BIS paints and posters within them and will not grant the standalone versions of those items.

This guy seems misguided: https://www.reddit.com/r/starcitizen/co ... ts_awarded

Mindshard wrote:Edit: Found my answer. As long as you have the ships on the last day of the event, you get the paints. So if you want the paints on their own, not tied to the ships, buy the cheapest upgrades to those ships before 8am Pacific!

None of the above seems to me to imply that you must upgrade "before 8am Pacific". As far as I can see, you can upgrade on the very last day if you want (Dec 3). And the replies to his post say the same:

gbmaj13 wrote:Two crucial changes this year.

    1. Only one round of attributions instead of two.

    2. You must have the full ship in your hangar by the end of the sale, and keep it there until the standalone paint is awarded.

As for the past several years, you can still skip all this by dropping cash on one of the BIS CCUs that will show up a few hours from now.

Mindshard wrote:It was definitely easier previously, getting the paints the first wave, melting, and buying up what you wanted before the end. Now you basically have to sit on $1,600 or so of ships you may not want to keep. That's rough.

Bought all the ones I didn't have, i.e. before we started playing: 2949-2951, plus 2952 because, though we had started playing by then, I still wasn't into collecting anything so I only got the Scorpius paint because I happened to have a Scorpius. So now I have two of those.

From 2953 onwards I already had everything, and for free, because I've been making sure to have all the vehicles.

Limited-time Paints

Postby icycalm » 02 Dec 2025 22:36

Limited-time paints not related to any event or show or promotion are a new thing for CIG and there are currently 6 of them. To find all of them in one screen you go to the Paints section of the Pledge Store and click on the "Limited Time" filter, then go to the end of the last results page in order to scroll past all the IAE paints. The link is basically this: https://robertsspaceindustries.com/en/s ... mited-time

Image

So as aforesaid, there are 6 of them, but I don't see most of them being useful to us in the near future. The main exception is the Perseus Incite, which is the best-looking out of all the Perseus paints, which is why the photographers have been overwhelmingly using it. And I believe it fits fantastically our Monster Hunter Specs. Compare it with the three tactical armors and also the knife that comes with them. So if someone buys it, I'll add the Perseus to the MH Spec at the Captain level. But it's no big deal if we don't get it. Plus, after the BIS Debacle I am certain we'll get more chances to acquire these paints down the line, so my FOMO is greatly diminished.

Other than that there is the black MXC paint, but there's another black that's not limited-time, and we can buy/melt those in bulk, so we don't really need this one. At any rate I did get one as it was just 3 dollars.

As always, let us know if anyone buys anything.
